ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

I actually think the ref was quite good last night. Apart from the fact he probably could have booked a couple more RS players. He was quite fair in his decisions and didn't bow down to them baying for blood.

A normal refereeing display to them means he's dodgy. They are so used to getting their own way 99% of the time that a good showing from the official means he's in the other team's pocket. Won't hear them talk about the decisions going their way against Southampton though. Already swept under the carpet by all.

They absolutely despise Nunez don’t they.

They like to think they have a love/hate relationship with him...but in reality they hate his guts and know he's the latin Peter Crouch.

When a big defeat like this happens the mask falls away. He carries the can and not that baldy Dutch get.

Why would they put that effort in?

I think the punishment for the PL was for them to be handed a boring procession of a PL season. Job done.

All politics.

You cant be the last 4 times PL champions and fall off a cliff like this and end up 23 points behind a pony Liverpool team.

That's just not possible.

City tanked this season for a reason.
City tanked because things became stale. They let Alvarez go, Walker declined massively, they lost the best defensive midfielder in the world, KDB has aged and looks nothing like the player he once was. That happens in football and everyone has there day. Same thing will happen with Liverpool if they lose Salah and VVD.

Salah leaving is going to absolutely wreck them. Based on the “normal” recruitment, their usual standard of player has more than 30 less goals/assists at this point (based on PL alone).

Letting him leave on a free, there’s no way they can replace that. The rest are bang average.

You cant compare Liverpool with that City team. Different levels.

Guardiola made some strange decisions: not the least of which was blowing Palmer to leave. And yes, KDB has gone into decline. Rodri was a huge early casualty.

However, even with all that they are studded with wold class players and should have been nip and tuck with Liverpool right now. Easily.

They tanked the season because they’re cycling off. That’s why they’re getting all these injuries and why players like Foden Gundogan Dias Kovacic etc. are all half a yard off the pace. Can’t blame age for that, or fatigue as they’ve been out of everything early. How does such a group of the world’s best players all take such a collective nosedive at the same time similar to what they did in 19/20?

Maybe we should ask the Liverpool teams from 20/21 and 22/23 who went from being PL and CL challenging behemoths the season before to struggling to even make the top 4 the next season and being punted left right and centre by average teams, before magically returning back to their quadruple challenging best the season after.

Make no mistake Pep didn’t sign a two year extension to spend it all cycling off. They’ll be back next season looking absolutely turbo charged and he’ll want another run at the CL. Wouldn’t surprise me if they did what Liverpool did for a few seasons and start juicing back up now to ensure they get in the top 4, they’ll suddenly reel off a load of wins in a row to finish the season.

Arsenal will be due a massive drop off soon because they’ve been on the good stuff for about 3 seasons now and not made it count. Liverpool have a poorer group of players than either of those two but have at least been sensible enough to stagger their cycle away from City’s.

I’ll anticipate a ‘rebuilding year’ next season where Slot with credit in the bank for winning the league will blame Van Dijk Salah and TAA for leaving as to why they’re suddenly a top 6 team again. Will buy a bunch of no marks who look terrible and then will be immediately back up there the season after and they’ll all be praising Edwards for being a genius.

Fergie’s teams didn’t drop 30 points when they were champions just because a CB was missing. They don’t go from being the best team in Europe to finishing fifth the next season. Their world class players didn’t challenge for the ballon dor one year then get called Van Disney the next year.

People need to open their eyes to modern football. Absolute mugs if they think these huge swings in form are statistically normal.

I don’t agree with that. I’d say Liverpool have just as good as a squad as City. City edge it with a few players, but again… those players were either out, or have declined. I think City have had there time, and I think if Arsenal can get a world class striker inn, it will be them next season.

Absolutely spot on. I'd only add that the off-field stuff will have handed City a great opportunity to also make the season a farce in competitive terms. That's pay back for the 100+ charges.
