The Now-Irrelevant 2024/25 Relegation Battle (Without Everton!)

None of the bottom 3 have got over 17 points. That’s the number we were on when Moyes took over and we had a game in hand. We were definitely going down though….

We were a point above the relegation zone and hadn’t scored in 9 of our last 11 games - and hadn’t actually looked like scoring in any of them either.
We were absolutely in the mix.

And you were still telling us Dyche was doing as well as anyone could 🤣

Precisely. Those tourist pricks can wave all the '30' balloons they want. Practically speaking, that Bournemouth game in 2023 was worth 10 cup final wins.
Can you imagine where we are now if we went down vs Bournemouth.

Hughe fire sale, ground 40% complete and building paused. Likely administration so more points deductions. A new Leeds x 10.

big if i know…but…if we do get back to the top table that in future…Pickford pen save vs Leicester, wolves away 99 min equaliser, bournemouth game pickford save on 88 minutes.

All are sliding doors moments…one of them goes other way and its a very different future.

Long way back but with TFG we might have one last shot…

We were tracking around a point per game and had been (and more) for close to 2 years (good form or bad). Obviously Moyes is a better manager and once the owners were in it was the right decision to get the best manager possible. But then people claiming we were definitely going down were panicking way too much.

We weren’t going down no matter how much people wanted to catastrophes. Even if we’d stuck with Dyche and lost all 8 games making it 10 losses in a row (which never happened under Dyche at Everton) we’d still have more than a good chance of staying up.

Both things can be true. It was the right decision to go for Moyes once Friedkin took over, but we were also never going down.
