It’s a really weird one, as they are such a sublime group and one that you would’ve thought the critics would love, but as you say, never got the proper recognition they deserved.

Their albums were so well produced, with a real glorious sound.

I've always thought that Richard Butler sounds like a cross between Johnny Rotten and David Bowie, and even in appearance [especially while in and around their mid twenties] Butler and Rotten had an uncanny likeness

There’s four or five shops in the city centre mate :

Dig records in Bold St is good, as is Probe ( remember them ! ) now in Blue Coat Chambers.

There’s another one in Renshaw St ( can’t remember the name ) and Rough Trade in the Baltic Triangle, which sells beer and food too.
