Jarrad Branthwaite open to new Everton contract
Speaking live on Sky Sports News [28 February], Vicky Gommarsall said: “Jarrad Branthwaite would be open to discussing a new contract with the club, but they are going to fight to keep the defender this summer.

“The England centre-back is expected to have intense interest from a number of top clubs around Europe, including several in the Champions League – Liverpool, Man City and Spurs are among those to track Branthwaite. Real Madrid are said to have sent scouts.

spurs lol

The supposed "100 day review" they have embarked on does appear to have some substance to it.

It's somewhat concerning that we may have a new CEO and DOF-equivalent not taking up their posts until the summer though. With an era-defining transfer window ahead of them.

Are they going to consult the CEO about any new appointment?

It does suggest Moyes will be in the driving seat for recruitment and they're placing a high level of trust in him, and may just put a support structure in place to help with that.

I wonder if this means there is some truth to David Weir taking up a position here not as DOF but in some redefined role where he will take direction from Moyes. That might work in the short-term but that's all.

Why would he go to Spurs lol

Looking back, Thelwell didn't really make any stinkers as signings during his time here that really hurt us, unlike those before him.

Obviously Maupay will rightly go down as one of the worst strikers that every played for the club, but he was quickly found out and shipped out after only a year, and Marseille will end up paying us back very close to what we paid for him.

He made some very astute signings: Onana who was sold at a £20 profit after outgrowing us, Tarkowski for free, brought back Gueye, Garner for a mere £10m, and O'Brien and Ndiaye for a snip over £30m.

Mangala was a smart loan signing, and the essential swap of Dobbin for Iroegbunam looks a real deal. He also managed to shift Godfrey out for £10m which was an insane deal for us.

He also got great money for Iwobi who was finished at the club, and Kean too back to Juve somehow.

I have no idea what was going through his head bringing obviously washed up and disinterested Dele Alli to the club, or handing a quite ludicrous contract extension to Doucoure, though.

All in all, and especially under absolutely ridiculous circumstances with an absent board and a club running on fumes, I'd say he generally did a very good job.

TBF in his first spell Moyes transfer business was good, he does know a good player when he sees one

Are you sure? Have a look at his entire 11 years. How many of the transfer windows he had you would call good? There were couple that were transformative but then there were stinkers.

2011: McFadden, Drenthe, Straqualursi, Hahnemann, Vellios.
2010: Mucha, Beckford, Senderos and Donovan.
2005: Neville, van der Meyde, Kröldrup, Davies, Arteta, Valente, Silva, Ruddy, Ferrari. One excellent signing apart, not great.
