2024/25 David Moyes

Well, TFG had someone lined up who wasnt available until the summer. Thomas Frank perhaps?

But I think they'll keep with Moyes. I think they've been burnt at Roma and terrified of being seen as crazy meddling yanks. You only had to see the briefings/PR around why Dyche had to go and that wasn't at all needed.

Tricky, as short term form and short-term circumstance shouldn't dictate long term planning.

*Re-adjusts self on fence.
Moyes's brief was to get us safe into the new stadium. Mission accomplished.

I wouldn't begrudge him next season - and the chance to oversee the start of the rebuild - if the Friedkins do not have a top-tier manager, i.e., one we could not refuse, lined up. So, short of Carlo Ancelotti deciding he has unfinished business, I can live with Moyes for next season.

But, let's be realistic. Everything depends on what the club really aspires to. If next season is truly about stability, Moyes is surely our man. But if they fancy winning stuff and backing a manager big time, well, then the circumstances and criteria change. The old glass ceiling and "humble" knife to gunfight mentality will come back to bite us.

I think Moyes stays for a full season. If he manages to get us into, say, 8th place next season, he'll stay on again. It's like it was with Dyche - but on a higher rung of the ladder - once more. Dyche would still be here if he had moved us into 13th or 14th without any relegation worry (i.e., do what Moyes is doing now). He failed. He had to go. Moyes will have his chance to make his case next season, in all likelihood. Get us top half and he will stay on. Unless these Yanks have really big plans...

I genuinely think we're looking at a completely different Moyes to the one we once knew.

I think that intensity has gone.

Perhaps.

But has his "downplay expectation to talk up David Moyes at every turn" gone?

We've had enough pragmatism. We need to start to believe and this summer with spend, new owners and Bramley Moore - we need the manager to be giving us belief. No knives to gunfights.

I like not seeing the rants and insanity from the likes of Pep. Over time, we’ll be up the table and it’ll be the right way. Earned. No corruption or temper tantrums. But rather a measured manager who chooses his words and actions carefully, particularly in the public eye.

Aye, good points.

This summer is massive and will determine direction for 5+ years - we need the right manager, and recruitment. We can't get it wrong.

they won’t sack him
he deserves money in summer and see what he can do

we will be his last

job

We've got the front foot football that we need, now he needs to convince the players that they can beat anyone. The issue is he needs to believe it himself first, and let's be honest we're a team of limited talent. If we can get a few more good players in and keep our best players I'm hopeful.

For me, it's all about the owners.

They will dictate our horizons and how far we can hope to jump.

If they want stability long term, and only that, stick with Moyes.

If they want it short term, Moyes is your man.

If they want a shot at true glory, well, let's see the colour of their money.

Moyes gives us that. We will be a solidly upper mid table team under Moyes. We need that while we can transform and reshape the squad.

The important thing is having a Manager lined up to kick us on once his contract is up.

Of all the managers in the world right now, who is the right one apart from Moyes? There might be a handful but that’s it. You could bring in super stud progressive mid 30’s/young 40’s manager who looks great on paper and might fail. Or might not gel with the DoF or owners. Might consider us a stepping stone and leave. Then it starts the nightmare all over again and it’d be too late to see we had the best solution all along. I seriously think our evolution is 2-3 years of Moyes as manager. Get us into or sniffing at Europe. Transition him to DoF and then bring in the future long-term manager.
