2024/25 Beto

It may be that we are now playing a bit more attacking and to his strenghts but it's quite damning for DCL in terms of the league.

Beto has 4 goals in <500mins. DCL has 3 goals in 1500mins.

Beto also has goals in the cup games.

Six in total in c. 800mins of football so one every 133mins. DCL has one every 527mins.

DCL should be the bench option when he returns and let go in the summer.
While I do believe you have to factor in a change of manager and style (effectiveness) with these comparisons, we have to praise Beto's influence.

Regardless of all the above, he has came in and done the business when asked - credit where credit is due. Also, he's showing he's more reliable with 1-on1s.

Love him, he’s been an excellent since Moyes arrived. Let’s not forget he also won us the penalty that got us the win against Brighton - and really forced a very similar action against the RS that predictably got turned away, but does show how panicky defenders get when he’s bearing down on them which seems to make them do weird things with their arms.

Very effective, if unconventional, player who I’m hoping keeps on banging them in until the end of the season. This club has been terrified for far too long, unnecessarily so, about a post-DCL future. We should be embracing moving away from players who have been mainstays over the last few years - not bending over backwards to retain them.

Just some nonsense being chatted now, whatever DCL is or isn't, he is always physical with the CBs and he looked to be benefiting from Moyes arrival just as much as Beto until injured.
He was physical with CB’s but not this season under Dyche. Stats show aerial & ground duels down this season. This was one of the issues with continuing to play him this season, he just wasn’t arsed. Maybe this would’ve improved under Moyes but it doesn’t alter what went before and why Beto should’ve been getting a game.

Not buying the not arsed stuff for a second. Its complete hyperbolic rubbish. Lads on here have been grinding an axe against for some time and are taking more joy in slating him than praising Beto.

Turns what should be a great thread right now into a gammon circle jerk

Yeah he wasn't arsed, or maybe, just maybe, he's not very good at playing alone up top with no teammates within 50 yards of him feeding off hoofballs to no one in particular.

As soon as we tried to play it to him on the floor/to his run he's started slotting, IMAGINE.

That doesn’t make any logical sense given that stats were this season versus last season and we were talking aerial/ground duels and not goals.

I looked at the stats and he was down on aerial/ground duels won last season by 25-30%. That reflected what lots of supporters were seeing with their own eyes. So frankly you can stick your ad hominem attacks where the sun doesn’t shine.

DM playing to his strengths helps him 100% - fair dos - he looks a totally different striker under DM than Dyche .... & he is a cool finisher too ..... the whole ethic of the team is to score - this was not the case under Dyche it was just 10 men behind the ball ...

The stats bear it all out since DM took over ....
Funny isn't it that the goals come when you actually try to score them.

I remember Bobby Charlton saying that his attitude always was that if you don't shoot you don't score ...

The slotted goals against Spurs and l/pool great movement he did not even have to take a touch the composure from a player who's 2nd touch is usually a tackle is bizarre we have a player there if the pass is right he will score goals

Give him his credit Joey.

Moyes isn't finishing those strikes, Beto is.
