I'm not disputing that but they have put huge pressure on themselves in the summer and better deliver otherwise there will be a backlash you would imagine. They are not going to get away with the Longstaff's and Gnonto's of this world imo so I hope they have a plan and know what they are doing.
Im afraid we need to prepare for Longstaffs and Gnontos.

Its unlikely we sign 12 Onanas.

Who cares about the transfers? Fact is, many clubs spend fortunes and get little to no return. I’d rather we quietly and competently do our business and try and outperform expectations.

It would be good if there was a reset of expectations going forward.

Then we will keep circling the drain and tbh deserve to go down at some point, it will be our own fault when it does happen. Who would want to sign 12 Onanas? massively overrated by the usual suspects imo. We have gone to the trouble and expense of building that monstrosity on the dockside (sorry I'm not a fan) if we are not going to match it on the playing side then we might as well just pack up. Its not hard to recruit, why we make such a meal of it is a mystery.

I mean young players with an upside who cost 35m.+

There will be a few frogs among the Princes.

We don't need to be spending that amount on individuals, I listed a number of individuals (as others did) the other day all who have been purchased in recent years for between £5-20m and the vast majority are better than anything we have at present. If we are still spending £30m+ on individuals we still have serious recruitment issues imo.

I suppose the point is not everybody we sign is going to be a gem, there are likely to be some functional types in there who are brought in to do a job rather than the hipster dream of someone who increases in value 17 times over. While it would be nice to have a 100% success rate in bringing in bargains, realistically it probably isn't going to be what happens.

We ain't getting anybody for 5m anymore, just cos a few clubs lucked a player or 2 doesn't mean they are all there ready to buy.

But price doesn't matter, players have been bought from 60k to 215m.

A good player is cheap at 90m, a bad player is expensive at 5m.

Picking up a Branners for 1m is possible, for sure, but it requires a lot of luck.

There is no luck in it, its about research and the effort/money you are prepared to put into the area to find the most suitable players. Some clubs spend millions on this area, Id be surprised if we spend more than a few hundred grand tbh. There are players out in the footballing world, we have to put the effort in too find them though. I'm more than happy to wait and see what happens in the summer (I'm preparing myself for a laugh tbh)

if we did sign 12 Onanas, we could then presumably sell them all on 23 months later for a combined 200 million profit and then have enough to buy the players we all really want.

Yes, but for those 23 months we have to watch a player who is a glorified cheerleader and spends the majority of the game on his arse. When he's good he's really good, so maybe for 3 months of those 23 months all would be rosy in the garden of Everton.

I think you are wrong mate.

Im certain we spend vast sums of money on scouting.

It is luck.

Take DCL for example, we signed him for 1.5m, he scored 21 goals, then his leg fella off, all the research in the world cant help with that.
Another example, Mason Greenwood.

I dont think its as easy as just scout players, if it was, 9000 clubs in the world wouldnt be wasting billions on tosh every summer.

I'm just talking about finding players in the first place, I fully agree you can't legislate for the likes of Greenwood or DCL, but likewise you have players like Broja and rule no1 when it comes to this stuff is don't sign an injured player. It's also about the environment they come into, ours is/has been garbage for ages and I wouldn't blame any player for sticking two fingers up at us, who would want to play for Dyche the way he sets up. Let's just see who we bring in, it will be interesting to see.

And when the going got tough and we needed players who could dig in, there wouldn’t be enough room for all the Onanas on the bench!

Moyes and KT have both said the same thing, no affordable quality available.

A problem it seemed the majority of the league faced.

As I've said, it means there are no excuses left in the Summer, serious and sensible cash HAS to be spent.
