Transfer Rumour Evan Ferguson

If his career doesn’t get back on the rails , which is often the case with young players who get a taste for the party life , it’s a massive waste of money.
The type of player I would prefer we signed is the one who is about to break through , not one who has broken through and (possibly) crashed.
That would require quality scouting.
We are a football club ( allegedly) not a rehabilitation centre.
Oh yeah, for sure let’s sign the next Haaland or Lewandoski aged 18. They’ll be desperate to come to us. I don’t know why more clubs don’t do that.

Aye but they’re all different situations. Ferguson was hyped as the next big thing just a couple of years ago and now Brighton are happy to sell. I don’t think their fans are too arsed either. Something isn’t right and we shouldn’t be using this window as a gamble on this kind of player.
We absolutely should. He was seen as a generational talent not so long ago, he’s still very young. Spending the money on some random who is almost guaranteed to be the next Beto is a far bigger risk. This guy has a massive upside and he might just need a bit of man management.

Someone else mentioned that Brighton let Gyokeres go but even better than that, we let Erling Haaland go.

Chelsea let Salah and De Bruyne go, Dortmund let Isak go, City let Cole Palmer go, it happens all the time.
Yup. Absolutely none of those (and a thousand others) are the same players today compared to somewhere else years ago. It's almost if countless players need to move on to grow and develop and advance...

...fresh start and new environment for EF might just be what one of the top young prospects in the game needs to get back on track and kick it up a notch (not that I think we'll sign him mind).

We have limited funds and there’s still a very real danger we could be relegated. Maybe he’ll come good but personally think we should not be gambling everything on that.

looking on twitter lots of their fans seem to be gutted at the prospect

in true Brighton fashion theres even a just stop oil meme doing the rounds but its don’t sell ferguson

This is Brighton. As someone said up the thread, they probably have his replacement lined up already.

That said, loan with option would be ideal. Aware that’s not currently an, er, option.

Wonder if Roma could loan him and then forward onto us? Presumably such an obvious ruse is not possible under the rules..

Who would you buy instead? I can guarantee virtually every option would be a bigger gamble because they will either have low ceilings (Beattie types) or be completely unproven (Beto types). We know Ferguson has the ability to be a top class player at this level. He is as near to a sure thing as a club like us can get and would be a genuinely exciting Kanchelskis/Lukaku type signing. If we want quality they are going to come with baggage. Moneyball.

Think he visited us as a youngster and we didn't think he was up to the required level , sadly mate
Yeah I’ve heard the story as told by Steve Walsh, who obviously has no skin in the game and is bound to be telling the truth. Anyone taking that story at face value can buy a genuine banksy off me whenever they want.

Give ya a tenner for the Banksy.
