Been a bit underwhelming so far hasnt it. Blimey, moyes said we had to get 3 in when he joined. Mangala and DCL now out for the foreseeable and we dont have anyone in yet.
We are a beto and ndiaye injury from complete and utter diasaster.

As I've said a couple of times already, the only person at the club with a longer documented obsession with Broja than Thelwell is Moyes. There's a better than decent chance that Broja ends up back here in the summer and, FWIW, Broja is a good player. The loan made good financial sense, we've just been very unlucky that the lad got a completely unrelated serious injury after getting himself fit.
Oh god mate don’t tell me that…

I’m sorry I really don’t see him as someone who can start as your striker and have any ambition at all. Made of paper mache and just lacks all the intangibles. We got lucky that we didn’t pay off his first injury and got exactly what we deserved by not safeguard against the inevitable second one.

I think Adebayo from Luton could be a real Moyes player. Just looked and mixed information about his contract but it looks like he has a year left based on a few sites I found. Saw wages estimated to be £12k a week which is insanely low even if we tripled them for him to come and £10m market value is good considering he has the PL experience Moyes is after

Him and another striker would be good I think and he has the profile to replace DCL for sure.

Only one small issue with that idea, the player is an absolute carthorse, hence, absolutely zero interest from anyone when Luton went down.

I doubt it, we've been badly stung this time despite knowing full well there was a good chance he'd get injured again.

There's no way we go back to Chelsea and pick up his salary again next season, and definitely no way we consider throwing money at them for a permanent deal.

I think he's (unfortunately) done huge damage to his career with this latest injury.

May we learn our lesson not to bring in crocks that we may end up relying on.
I am nowhere near as certain as you are of this. There are a number of people in senior positions at the club who like him, we may need to sign a couple of strikers in the summer and Broja's injuries could end up significantly lowering the potential transfer fee (think £30m was the original agreed fee).

I wouldn't put my house on it, but by the same token it wouldn't be a surprise to me at all if this came to pass.

It's not just about getting bodies in now, it's about getting ones good enough to be playing for us for a good few years.

TFG will back us during the summer, but they don't be suddenly replacing people we bought in January that's for sure. We will have x amount to spend in the summer and we will have to already do a lot with that. It won't include replacement for 30-40m worth of players bought 5 months earlier for certain.

I reckon we're waiting until after the Leicester game to act. If we win that then the gap between us and the bottom is pretty healthy, so might decide we only need one in on a loan.

If we lose maybe it's a more drastic multi player deadline dash.
If I was Moyes and we beat Leicester I'd be still demanding transfers chomping at the bit to finish above Man Utd and West Ham personally

Who would you want everton to target striker wise , that you think would be feasible in your opinion?

Best out there is obviously Ferguson in terms of long term upside. Is he obtainable? Hard to say as Brighton do want rid, could we afford him, yup, will we choose to back Moyes with the money needed to get him and say a couple of others - I'd say massively unlikely.

We could maybe get Ferguson if we used pretty much the whole budget, and I think if there weren’t so many injury / attitude red flags I’d maybe argue for it, maybe better to get one thing sorted for the long term that weigh yourself down with squad filler.

BUT Ferguson, I dunno, maybe too much of a gamble. Ankle goes again and everyone wants Thelwell machine gunned.

We had five options this window really.

First was for TFG to have bankrolled a major aggressive recruitment in January. Underwrite a 100m splurge but focusing on 21-24yo players, send a clear signal that the clubs building something long term.
Second was to try to get good deals fish around and try to ad-hoc patch up some holes whilst not spending much. Basically journeymen and squad fillers.
Third is to go with the squad as is and hope they scrape over the line.
Fourth was a limited spend of 30-40m targeting a few players who are either gambles or other teams unwanted players
Fifth was a limited 30-40 spend targeting a couple of players who long term will benefit the squad

Seems we went for 2 -4

Thing is I fear we will spend the same anyways on 3 who within a season will all be players we don't want here as they are crap....

Yeah I would be onboard with a strategy of spending what we have on one single addition who can add quality, rather than squad meat who themselves will need upgrading. 100%. I just have my doubts over that player being Ferguson.
