Everton Director of Football Kevin Thelwell added: “Neal is a player who has proven himself in the Premier League over the past three seasons and he is hungry to hit the ground running with Everton.

“We believe he will add an extra dimension to our attack and complements the existing players we have at the top end of the pitch."

I only need to hear it once from his mouth.

60m on Beto, Maupay and Chermo, plus another 20m on wages.

Gross misconduct.
It’s absolutely shocking tbh but that’s what happens when you can only buy now pay later or never never payments. You end up getting shafted with no Vaseline, who gets a player in injured who can’t play for 2/3 months known to have injury issues. Who sells a youngster any good with no need for payment for 12 months ie chermiti and same goes for Beto. DCL runs his deal down after being injured for a good chunk of his last 3 years here as soon as he put games together he should have been up for sale. And now here we’re desperate for a striker with less than a week to go in the window 😂 unbelievable Jeff. And that’s before we get to the rest of the squad.

Look the fella has worked in some brutal conditions, I go after him a lot, but hes doing a very tough job, hes trying to sign PL quality players on a Dog and Duck budget.

We could always loan oh we can't thanks to Thelwell & Dyche - two crap loans !

Harrison did a job last season, nothing special but Dyche wanted him back, shame it hasn't worked out this year. I also thought Broja looked handy when he started getting a go in the team, but sadly he got injured.

Whilst I agree with you on this Zat the problem is that the DoF is supposed to be in control of the footballing operations within a club, a manager/head coach is technically beneath them in the hierarchy. I don't see any DoF worth their salt taking orders from a manager or letting others interfere with their plan otherwise it doesn't work, the ones that do just look like they are in it for the money. Look at Ashworth for example, he didn't take to the INEOS plan at Utd and they were not overly keen on what he was suggesting either so they parted ways instead of sitting it out.

Well Ashworth has become a comedy figure and was sacked at United.

Like in organisations, tow the party line and follow orders. Which DOFs in the premier league have gone against owners and remain in their jobs?

Of course he's been wheeled out to comment and so was Dyche when O'Brien signed.

I believe Bobble.

Harrison is a loan I was ok with in the summer as we were facing the reality of no new ownership thus zero funds.

I'm guessing Thelwell may not have done the deal if he'd known we'd have been taken over by TFG.

Is he a good DoF, frankly nobody knows as the conditions and restrictions have been so severe that pretty much anyone would have struggled.

Is he a bad DoF, no as if he was we'd have probably gone under such was the financial issues.

The real question though is - is he a good enough DoF to rebuild a team from the bare bones to a standard where we can compete for Europe again, no ability to answer that but odds are he isn't. The remaining window will maybe give us an inkling on that though...

Calling Ashworth a comedy figure when we have Thelwell err ok Zat whatever, I must have missed the raging success of recent years and excellent performances from quality signings. As I said no DoF worth their salt takes instructions on recruitment from the manager, they also don't sit there whilst a manager/head coach gets picked above their heads, how does anyone plan like that, the role is about strategy and planning.
As for the bottom bit, have you ever actually looked at the Bobbles track record on stuff? " Interesting" is how I would describe it. Also if what you say is true then its another example of Thelwell having no control/power. The guy just isn't what we need imo, there are better out there, but Id redo the whole recruitment team.

You must have an amazing garden

As expected, a stupid response from a clueless poster, Zat do me a favour and don't post/respond to any of my stuff again, no desire to engage with you anymore, enjoy the rest of your day ;)

How else to respond to someone with no concept of business politics and the realities of working in large organisations.

"Stupid" is pretty much the post of any "clueless" person not using reality to make decisions.

Which clearly you and certain others do not.

Dyche was unwilling to work with certain players who could have offered the team something. See Danjuma last year and O'Brien this year.

At the end of the day, Dyche was more old school in that regard, Thelwell couldn't make him do anything, he could only try and give him decent players to work with on a limited budget. Like Ndiaye, Lindstrom and O'Brien.

The Friedkens probably will bring in their own people and they should. But for me, all things considered, Thelwell has done a decent job. Not amazing, but certainly not a bad one.

I guess but the loans have been pretty rubbish, 2 seasons to check out Harrison, Broja glass legs, El Ghazi (was he just before Kev joined us ?), Vinagre and Danjuma the invisible men
What i hated about the Danjuma loan was the season before we had gone in for him, close to getting him when we thought we'd needed him, he mugged us off for spurs and sat on their bench for the rest of the season. From there he showed nothing to suggest he'd do well in the prem, and we decided to loan him the following season, after he'd already mugged us off. There's more footballers in the world and it annoyed me we went back in for him.

He was injured when he arrived - he's been injured most of his career - If we had Nots Forests medics he would never have arrived here... Chelsea have agreed to now pay his wages, which now hinders from getting a lone player - unless we swap him for a midfielder or fullback on high wages etc ....
