The loss of him is a bad one, although I actually prefer Garner over him, if Garner can stay fit is the worry as is it removes the only current depth option we had too until Tim get back fully.

Need to add arguably three to midfield/forwards and an out right striker, seriously doubt we have the resources available under the regs to be able to do so this month.

Attacking mid, a wide forward/winger, centre mid and a striker all key positions to add, striker and attacking mid absolutely vital, we may be able to muddle through in centre mid just about. But we have to get Doucoure out that number ten slot so an atta king mid is crucial

Everybody assumes it's a bad injury...I guess we'll have to wait unti the press conference later in the week to find out exactly.

Mangala doesn't bully mate, defensively he's bang average at best, he's just neat and tidy in possession and has a decent range dig on him.

Think we've that used to watching dross that just seeing a run of the mill midfielder makes us overrate them hugely.

Mangala is a miss purely because we are very short on numbers in the middle and our options besides Gueye and Garner are Doucoure who got two club feet and Tim who's very inexperienced and defensively can switch off.

If Garner is pressed into service in the mangala position, were gonna see a big difference in how we keep possession under pressure. That was mangala's strength. Garner is better further forward

Garner is quicker, but he is an average defender as well. Gets dribbled past a lot

The thing is that Garner is not a defensive midfielder. Mangala is great in protecting the defense and rarely loses possession. I suppose Gana Gueye is the closest replacement but it's a bigger loss than that of The Skirt.

ACL I'd guess given the planted leg and the way his knee bent inwards, that's how I did my right knee years ago.
Was in hospital a few weeks ago having hammertoe surgery and the guy in the next bed to me was a footballer playing for a decent Welsh team. He had done his ACL, he had waited 11 months for surgery and was told another 12 months min after the operation. Ok it will be quicker for a professional footballer but a whole season missed could easily happen.

It varies - lots of factors impact recovery, mental as well as physical. Timber came back relative quickly for Arsenal, others have taken longer. My daughter ruptured hers playing for Ipswich Town in December 2023, had surgery in February 2024 and is now training with the team but non-contact only. It seems to be about nine months post surgery for most professionals who do not experience complications.

If sadly that has what Mangala has done, in essence it is the end of his Everton career - for now, at least.
