He gave the ball away with his first touch, he just isn't the answer for me.

I think with Patterson it clearly must be something like a concentration issue or inability to follow instructions that is holding him back and why managers aren't selecting him. The lad clearly has ability but in training perhaps there's certain things he just struggles to get to grips with and the managers deem them too risky for him to start games. If that is the case then surely it's in his best interest to look into becoming a winger or something

What about the rest of his display? With his 100% pass accuracy, 3 out of 4 successful dribbles, 0 times dribbled past and his 1 successful tackle of 1 attempted? (1 tackle seems like nothing but it’s as many as Mangala made, and more than JOB made for perspective)

He did ok for the time he was on. He just has had multiple chances now under various managers now and still can't hold down a place and there is good reason for that. I think we all wanted it too work for him but he sadly just isn't good enough imo.

We need to get a RB in and let Patterson go. He’s been ignored now by 4 managers, take the hint lads.
I mean, Lampard played him.

Dyche didnt.

Moyes has had two games and brought him on vs spurs so hardly ignored him.

His dribbling looked good vs spurs. And he likes getting up and to the byline. As I’ve said multiple times, he arguably would be a much better option at RW than Harrison has been. Even if he isn’t necessarily ready for starting at RB.

You are absolutely correct, but I'd caveat that with his poor injury record and the fact that this is the first manager we've had worth a toss out of those four. Maybe he still ends up surplus to requirements (in fact I think that's still more likely than not), but I don't think ability is his issue in all honesty, I think it's concentration, fitness and tactical understanding - they're all things that can be developed. Will Moyes get a tune out of him? Unlikely, but I'd say he has his best chance now than he's had in some time. I don't read too much into O'Brien getting a game ahead of him - Leyton Baines couldn't get in the team when he first came here as Moyes insisted on playing Lescott at left back ahead of him

Or we could just play an actual right winger there.

Lampard played him right up to the point where Mitoma tore him a new A hole at home which was just before he was fired.

It’s time to admit he’s clearly not up to it. Possibly could be a good RB in the Scottish league or championship.

Plus he’s always injured.

10M we paid for him, be lucky to get half of it back. Rangers completely pulled our pants down.

Our neighbors bringing through Bradley after home producing TAA while we are paying 10m for this lad is the most “Everton” thing ever.

Sure Moyes will give him some time to adapt unless we need the cash.

Fact is that OBrien has more practical experience in a better team / league.

They both have room to improve imo.

We need to move away from this thing of players with poor injury records though, we seem to be a magnet for them. I do agree with you that if he is ever going to make it then his best chance is now with Moyes at the helm.

Lampard played him until he got injured. Then brought him back in when he got fit again.

I agree, an actual RM would be great, but Lindstrom had one decent game and can’t last. Coleman started as RM under Moyes as he was poor defensively, and look how that turned out. But also, maybe Patterson is a RW but was shoved into RB at an early age. His dribbling looks good and he likes to put a cross in. Players don’t always make it in their supposed “positions”.

I remember the game vs Brighton when he started and Mitoma gave up and swapped sides as he couldn’t get past him. Think we won 5:1.
