The Pienaar situation

not really, there last 5 signings fridel, saha, nelson, adebayor(loan) parker- combined transfer fees 6m

yet they got 38m for pavy, keane, hutton, crouch palacios ohara and only spent 6m of it

they're probably guna be in the champions league i doubt they'll sell a massively influential player and hope that pienaar will be the answer for their massive games. i understand that quite a bit of the money will be going towards a striker, probs adebayor but still.

The amount they got for those players is shocking though, all decent but not that good, didn;t they get like 8 million for palacios and he wasnt even close to the starting line up. i know where in a financial state but compare our £1.5 mill for yakubu to that, and its depressing reading. They would have got about £10 million i reckon

The Pienaar situation could very quickly become a Baines situation, if Arsenal splash the cash, Wenger coveted Pienaar and Baines would shore up their left side - would be a solid coup and fix them there for 3-4 years easily.

Wenger has no need to sign Baines. Gibbs is a perfectly capable and very promising looking left back. Pienaar possibly, but i still can't see it. Spending £5m on a 30 year old player is not what he or the fans will be looking for.

Pienaar is a class act who ALWAYS puts in a shift when he is selected. Furthermore he is a committed team player and not a prima dona. We must make every effort to sign him permenantly

Left us for money. Turned down Chelsea for spurs for money. Fair play to him. His bed to lie in.

Now he wants back? On less money we probably offered him in the first place and as said many times...levy will want more than we sold him for (he has a 3 year contract I think). Add to that a new manager at spurs in the summer...

Source ?

Actually I heard Chelsea offered him More money than Spurs.

Clearly I dont have a source, just something I read.

He basically wanted the same money as Arteta, we said no, so as any normal person would, he got a move that suited him more.

For whatever reason it didnt work out and since hes been back hes played out of his skin to get back in the fans good books.

I have no ill feelings to Pienaar and pray that we can retain him at the end of the Season.

If Everton sign anyone over 30 for cash then Moyes should take a long hard look at himself when he wants cash from Bill....

Spunking millions on players like Saha, Neville and Distin for short term fix and no resale value will lead us to having holes in the team...Cahill will be done soon leaving 3 spots to fill and no cash to do it with.

Signing Pienaar for anything over 3mil would be a mistake....what happens if we has 12 mil and Moyes went and bought Pienaar+Donovan...then what ?

Neville + Cahill + Distin + Pienaar + Donovan -- shelf life 2-3 seasons and no resale value.

Pure stupidity.

I hope we keep the bass talking braided boss Christian

[Love that description but can't honestly take credit for it.]

I'd like to know what you are basing your '2-3 seasons' on, especially with Donovan who is fit as a fiddle. The reality is that we can't afford young players who are also dead certs. We either have to take a risk on young players, or buy older players who are guaranteed to come in and do a job but as a result won't be long term members of the first eleven.
