My take:

History of how he left etc. aside, he’s coming into the club at a time where for a change we are on our knees on the pitch more than off it.

Fact of the matter is that we are a mess on the field due to years of mismanagement off it and although we all want instant success, glamour signings/management, trophies and all that, the reality is that in the next six to twelve months that isn’t happening.

Steady the ship, bring in someone who can hit the ground and not need three months to install a “philosophy” and have a connection to the club.

Dyche didn’t care about the club and it’s no surprise stories of his toxicity have come out this week about his leadership here and at Burnley.

In the short term, Moues has Jarrod & O’Brien who are tall promising centre backs, we have some good youth options across the midfield, he will hopefully move the deadwood like Doucoure, Gueye and Tarkowski aside.
Forward options are my concern and we need creativity in the number 10 position and forward movement through passes (exactly what Armstrong did on Thursday night).

I do think 11 years is long enough to not judge on his previous time here and look at this as a fresh start. Onus is on him to deliver but this is a different Everton to where we were back then with no money, knife to a gun fight and sixth was well and truly the eternal glass ceiling.

Dyche left the club a hollow mess lacking in confidence, drummed down through 24 months of gaslighting and internal dismay, dummed down to his his own shortcomings.

Anything would be better than Dyche and if we are realistic in the short term, this is best case scenario which makes sense. Anything more than that is a pipe dream for now

Utterly deluded. Bloody hilarious.
It's now almost 20 years since Moyes peak (Villareal August 2025). He's been downhill ever since.
"Moyes knows a player" my arse. For every one Tim Cahill there's a James Beattie or Per Kroldrup.
Appointing Moyes now is the worst decision in the clubs history.
Yes even appointing the fat waiter had a devilment to it as it annoyed the RS and he had a history of success.
The absolute shame of it now when we're on the verge of a new era with new owners and a new stadium.
At least he'll be gone soon is my only hope but it'll mean we're in a hell of a mess come April.
I’d hate to hear Charlie Sour

Your post is full of a lot more hyperbole than theirs.

…..for this to happen so quickly after the sacking, it’s probably stating the obvious that Moyes was spoken to and lined-up well in advance.

I’d be surprised if Moyes hasn’t voiced strong views on who he wants to work alongside.

I think I'm just getting wound up by people being excited by it (not saying you).

Clearly my memory of Moyes isn't as rosy as everyone else's.

Hopefully he proves me wrong, and can make goodison less toxic. That's the first job, get the fans back on board.

But feels like some fans are remembering his tenure a lot differently because of the mess Moshiri left us in.

I really don’t think anyone is excited, I don’t think it is possible to be excited. That’s not what this is about though, we are half way through a season and entrenched in a relegation battle because the previous incumbent was absolutely terrible and had us in freefall. So, people unfortunately just have to grit their teeth and bear yet another January-May of looking to pick up more points than the teams directly below us. This appointment was simply about picking the best manager for that task and no more. Hopefully this is the last one of these for a good while, we’ve all had enough of it.

Yet more abject failure to look forward to. - Been here two minutes have you?

I really don't get the hate for the guy on here. Yeah he's obviously not what I want for the club long-term and his first run here is not a period I look back on overly fondly as we achived nowt. That being said, I just don't get anyone hating the man. With the exception of a couple of crappy comments when he first went to Man Utd (which at the time was the biggest job in club football) and the pathetic way he handled the Fellaini/Baines saga he's done nothing to warrant it.

When we appointed him - he was the young progressive manager at the time.

I don't see what the difference is now, he's the same person, just older.

Do younger mangers know something more about the game.........or is it just perception.
I agree entirely, my motivations for wanting a younger manager isn't because I don't think Moyes isn't up to the job - merely that I think a younger manager would bring more energy and revitalise the fanbase a little bit, whilst also giving us hope that should they be successful they could be here for 10+ years like Moyes was originally.

I think it’s the best choice and I’m very happy.

Knows the club and the expectations.
Did a good job before and comes back with more experience.
You would be hard pushed to find a manager with as much experience of the premier league or Everton.
Knows a player.
Knows a bargain.
A capable and stabilising pair of hands.
Can operate either end of the league and budget scale.
Is not a gamble.
I get the feeling he has unfulfilled ambitions, wants one last swan song and wants to do it with the club he has the most love for.

Welcome home !
