both needs to be done

why keep dyche and get players he won’t play?
Who isn’t he playing??
We have a skeleton squad, half of whom are not up to the job either physically or talent-wise. We are down to filling the bench with goalies and playing 17 year-olds because we don’t have a functional pool of players to put a team out properly.

Do you seriously think that Dyche doesn’t WANT to score goals and win games?

His managerial record strongly suggests that his first object is to not concede, draw games first and then nick a win, but if that doesn’t happen s draw is job done.

And we don’t even have a squad that can do that. Yes, I know.

It’s also no good trying to score and conceding like crazy. Look at Spurs. There has to be some sort of happy medium, but we don’t have the players that can do both.

It’s a straight choice between attack and lose, or defend and maybe get a draw, and possibly, very occasionally, get a win.

But he's rubbish and is contracted to 2026 in any case.
Then he’s our second choice left back IF and when we get someone better in.
We still need at least 2 players in the squad who can play in that position. Coleman and Young won’t be here.
We already can’t get rid of Patterson back to Rangers on loan (even though we’d love to) because we don’t have enough bodies to put in the bench.

Fine, second choice next year on his current contract. Let's not waste our precious resources on a signing on fee, increased wages and a new four year commitment to substandard players. I've been broadly supportive of Thelwell, barring his blind spots for strikers and fullbacks, but if he re-signs Mykolenko he's done in my eyes.

You miss the point.
We need two players for left back.
It is much cheaper getting one player in and renewing Myko as reserve, than it would be to get two players in.
We have far greater problems in the squad. Like no functional striker or wingers.

No, I get the point, I just disagree. Extending the contracts of poor players is a major plank of how we have ended up in this dreadful situation, in a sporting sense and a financial sense. We need to stop doing it.

It really isn’t.
Terrible commercial deals, and massively overspending on underperforming players who are on inflated wages that we can’t get rid of every time we change manger and formation every year to 18months is why we are knackered.
Having a fan (Kenwright), who knew nothing about football and was softer than sodding custard when it came to negotiating for two decades is where the rot was.
