for some odd reason Admiral Footy shirts had a really distinctive smell to them. I cannot describe it, a bit like bazooka Joe but less sweet. I am sure it was some chemical used in the processing of the fabric.

Over in the US there is a distinct set of REI predecessors that are just about still in business but really scaled back, Eddie Bauer, LL Bean, Orvis, Obviously GAP and Banana Republic too. Saw some Orvis stuff in Costco the other day.
There is still a bit of a premium on True Religion but you never see the brand being worn.

Strange you mention them, they may be coming back into fashion as I've seen a few bucks wearing them recently. On a different note, Lotto football boots.

Head and Sergio Tacchini were once fashionable brands, too.

Had a couple of pairs of Troop back when. Comfiest things ever.
