2024/25 Seamus Coleman

He's not won anything, don't think he can be called a legend. A fine player for Everton FC.
Football is a team game. Does Le Tissier not count as a Southampton legend because he didn’t win anything? I was lucky enough to watch the 80s teams including being at Goodson for the win that clinched us the league title in 85. So I have seen many other club legends. I consider Seamus a club legend - for his years of fine service, his attitude and leadership and how he connects with the club and fans.

But Everton have won things. Coleman would be a club legend for Southampton for sure.

Why not? They are losing lots currently. We should be coming in saying “we want to win this”.

Yes, you can be pragmatic and play a defensive/counterattacking game and accept a point is still an excellent result but the aim should always be, “how do we find a way to win? We want to win every game”.

The mentality of just not losing is part of the issue at the club. It’s a poor culture for a professional sports team to have and the club captain should be making the culture one of wanting to win.

He had a good game today after not having played much. But top level pros should be going in to every game wanting to win. (Wanting, not expecting)
He said we come here wanting a point- which means a win or a draw...

There are 20 teams in the league and every year someone comes 20 no matter how lofty an expectation they have... I'd rather someone be realistic than saying we expected to win today (any game) - sometimes you have to cut your cloth to fit

Maybe reread what I said. It’s not about expecting to win. But players should want to win.

I quoted him word for word like 5 seconds after he said it. A point doesn’t mean a win. A point means a draw. They came to not lose.

Seemed to be talking down his chances of starting the next match in his post match interview. Not sure why, whilst he wasn't as solid defensively as Youngy he offered more going forward. Maybe he doesn't see himself being able to play two games in three days but the fact he was taken off before the end suggests Dyche might be protecting him for the weekend.

is this the same Legend that went to see if Son was OK after he snapped Gomes ankle in 2.
The same guy who is still not retired from international duty to focus on his club career.
Yes he has been a good player over the years for us, but certainly not a legend, a legend will not want a point when playing football, that is not success and never will be

Some of the posts about Séamus only wanting a point are inaccurate and misleading…. If you watch it back, what he actually said in the interview was “We came here wanting to get a point and you do anything you can sometimes to win.”

Never mind the negativity, he put a great shift in today, led by example and was instrumental in our win (involved in the lead-up to our goal and in destabilising Haaland before the penalty).
