As Drico says above, deserve implies sentiment, not results. I don't know if Thelwell was a good hire, there's not much evidence of it because as you say, he's been dealt a bad hand. But being dealt a bad hand doesn't mean he deserves more road.

As you stated the hierarchy of the club was so muddled so it's difficult to fully assess thelwell. I know at wolves although he was obviously benefited by super agent George Mendes connections he oversaw the wolves getting promoted and make to Europe. They started to decline after left for the mls. So he could still be a flawed for here but I'm willing to let him at least have more authority on the direction to see how it plays out.

I just don't see why the new owners - who are supposed to have big plans and ideas - should just come in and hope that Thelwell can show what he can do. I mean, there must be evidence somewhere in his career that makes him the best man for the job - not simply the one sitting in the seat right now.
Now, perhaps this is indeed what will happen: he gets his chance. Well, while they judge Thelwell on that chance, we'll be judging the Friedkins. So, they'd need to be pretty sure he can make a fist of it - otherwise their first big move at the club will have been to play safe and back a loser. Which won't speak so highly of them when it's clear that a complete clean sweep and the appointment of the best available manager and director of football right now would immediately get the bulk of fans onside.
They've had months to plan their first moves. There will be no excuse for getting this wrong - whatever they decide to do.

Yes, this is true.
But the Friedkins really must avoid the seduction of continuity - unless it makes real sense. Moshiri came in and sacked the manager - but kept continuity with Kenwright. In one fell swoop, he holed himself under the bow.

It looks like the new era starts tomorrow. Just focus on getting our scouting and youth player development right, and then make a profit when we sell those players we find and develop on.
No more blowing our money on players with little to none resale value.
Just rebuild the club in a gradual and sensible manner, and none of this interfering with the manger and director of football lark either.
No use buying a dog and barking yourself after all.
I'm hopeful that these guys will do a good job for us. The club is on the verge of being freed from the shackles of the Kenwright/Moshiri era thank god!
