I'd hate to be relying on Wolves, Bournemouth (who already beat us) and Brentford receding so much from last season that we might be able to overhaul them this.

We're well in the mire.

We are, but we can get out of this and then some.

We’re in exactly the same position as last season after 5 games. We then had an 8 point deduction, a run of 10+ games without a win and we stayed up by 14 points. Far too early to know what’s going to happen yet, especially with our best defender yet to play a game.

S'ton, Ipswich, B'mouth, Wolves and Brentford will all scrap it out rather than us or Leicester.

Luton beat us at home last season and we finished 14 points (22 without the deduction) ahead of them in the end.

Branthwaite should improve us in that area. The team will hopefully have more confidence when he’s in the defence.

Complicate it for me, then. How are we getting to 40 points if we lose to our direct competitors at home and are, repeatedly, told by posters on here that we can't expect any points against teams like Brighton, Spurs and Villa?

I'll ask you the same question I've asked everyone who is relaxed about us losing to our direct competitors, which of the top half teams are we going to take points from to compensate?

Not sure at the moment but there will be some games over the course of a season where we pick up points and wins unexpectedly, like the Brighton game two seasons ago and the derby last season.
