Duche plays Keane on purpose, he must do, as he has all the facts and figures and yet he still gets picked, he didn't get picked in a couple of pre season games we won 3-0 v Preston and drew 1-1 with Roma and yet Dyche says he had a good pre season.

He is definitely winding us all up 100% ge seriously can't be that blind.

What point do we start booing his name on the announcement at the start?

He is not cut out for this level but its not his fault Dyche is picking him.

It’s Dyche that needs the boos.

This is also very true.

And a criticism I have of Dyche.

He's abandoned that low block which was successful for him last season, at a time our defence is on it's arse.

I understand it a bit - new season. He's desperate to prove he's not a one trick pony - but when you have Young, Keane and Mykolenko in defence, with a below par (injured?) Tarkowski and lacking in form Pickford - go low block.

Clearly wants us to attack and get goals. The Opta article says we're top 3 for final 3rd pressure and winning the ball.

The issue is could be...quality and balance.

We don't kill teams when we win the ball (Bournemouth and Villa improved). But the. we don't have the defenders to then play other than a compact unit.

Branthwaite changes that though.

Apparently our eyes deceive us - we were as high last season.

Check 'def line'

Some comment on this from X/Twitter;

Paddy_Boyland: That's interesting but I think Dyche has always been somewhat incorrectly labelled as a low block manager. Since he's taken over, they've regularly been close to the top of the charts for high turnovers. Sat deeper v Villa but weren't compact & allowed Tielemans too much space

greenallefc: None of that is new tactically. Defensive height of 44.9m is the exact same as last season

Maybe Spurs, Brighton, Villa just make us feel like it is? Or Maybe we felt more comfortable with Branthwaite?

Apparently our high line was same last season. I've asked for a link.

Maybe just feels worse because no Branthwaite, or Onana.

Onana was a presence there.

It is, he wants to be compact, in order to do that you need a high line. The stats are interesting in that he wants to shorten the pitch and win the ball up high, but I'm not sure we have the players to keep possession, and he doesn't want them chasing out of the shape so we're more prone to drop back after the ball hits the middle third.

The midfield has been a problem, the fullbacks have been a bigger problem. I'm sure Branthwaite would paper over a lot of cracks, but the squad's defensive collapse isn't down to one person.

He is playing him because Branthwaite is injured.

That bit is not that hard to work out.

Is O'Brien a better option though? You would certainly hope so but realistically nobody knows.

He has to be...right?

Agree with that. There's an imbalance.

Branthwaite adds height, aggression, and pace to cover ground that Keane doesn't have which would paper it over.

But Tim and Gana aren't as good a match yet to Onana or Garner in there.

Needs patching and putting Garner in with Tim and Gana improves that. But at what expense to our poor attack.

Something tells me that O'Brien looks more like a Tarko understudy than a partner...as in they're too similar.

It will never be said by anyone at the club obviously but its not just individual errors(villa first goal is pure shocking from keane) but its a mind thing aswell. All of that defence can claim they've been part of a defensive unit thats kept clean sheets.
Except ONE.
You dont need to be Einstein to work this one out.
Does it instantly change results if keane is removed? Probably not.
What it could do though is mean we dont have to score 3 or 4 to just win as its almost guarenteed with Keane starting we're shipping a minimum 3 every game.
