What style was Bob Latchford?

Well...mostly he wore his hair in a standard (for then) shortish back and sides. On one other memorable occasion, he wore a perm (and scored four in a match at Loftus Road whilst sporting said curls) and sometimes had a beard.

Oh yeah, he scored a few as well but the hair was the thing....his was ace.

Remember the song..All together now,2,3,4 One goal at a time Bob Latchford, thats all were askin of you,If you hit the bar,We,ll all go aarrgh,One goal at a time. Repeat over and over.Brillliant days in the St End

Archie Styles also went to Brum as part of the deal. He was, and still is quietly spoken. Strong as an ox but very rarely lost his temper. 1 memorable game was against Brum, his old club and his brother was in goal. They both (certainly one of them) got sent off for fighting each other!!! His one failure was......he never scored for us in a derby match. Had the pleasure of meeting him recently and he is an absolute gent. Every talks about how good Duncan was at heading a ball but the Latch was better. He also scored goals with both feet. The period we had Dave Thomas swinging crosses in for him was unreal. What a combination. Bobby Latchford walks on water.........

I remember the Coventry match well - Thomas, Dobson, Pejic, and most of all Andy King - what we could do if we had Andy King now!!
there is an idea for a thread - pick ONE player from Everton's past to add to today's team to make it great.
On reflection I think I would have to go for Duncan McKenzie and build the team around him. although Peter Beardsley would run close. i dont think we miss the big center forward i think we miss the 15 goal a season man just behind him, now that cahill has run dry.

Can somebody teach me all about Bob Latchford please?

Not the usual stuff I can get off Wiki. Like people who saw him play. What was he like? What style was he?

I just don't know much about this legend and would like to learn.

Thanks.

I have a Bob Latchford book that I got from Goodison hospitality last year. Published with help from the former players foundation i think. I would be happy to let you borrow it as long as you sent it back when you were finished.

just doing the article with Bob this week and mentioned this to him

he says he didn't get sent off for fighting with his brother but did get sent off

he also added that they never had a fight, as he was always too quick to get away from their retaliation after he'd elbowed them!

Simon, thanks for that. I was at the game and remember him getting sent off. I can recall he and his brother dishing it out to each other because it was the highlight of a dull game which finished 1-1 or 0-0. My old memories playing tricks...

yeah he said he always gave out to his brothers when he played against them

then said "But I was never a dirty player"
