But that makes even less sense why he'd partner Rice as it's once again a bad fit then?!

Martinez tried the same with us by having 2 water carriers, it just leaves the team unbalanced.

He’s good not great. What throws me off the most is why England needs to play with anymore more than Rice holding. You have more talent than everyone else you’re playing right now. Get an attacking mid on, let Jude play the 8 and go at these teams. Palmer not getting an actual go is criminal.

Agreed really.

Fully expect Palmer to get the arse end of a game for 5 min and for Southgate to say "we gave it a go" :lol:
 


How does it work with what 3rd place team you play? So if England win group they then play 3D/E/F so which will it be in 3rd place in them 3 groups qualifies

Easier to explain Rocket Science.

6 potential paths left

ABDE - Group E (seems unlikely)
ACDE - Group D
ACDF - Group D (seems highly unlikely)
ACEF - Group F (seems highly unlikely)
ADEF - Group F
CDEF - Group E

The groups with sides most at peril of missing out are

B - Croatia, 2pts, negative goal difference, only a miracle saving them
C - Should England win today, the 3rd place side will have a max of 2 points
F - Czech's and Georgia both on 1pt, should they win, they're in, likewise with Georgia. However a draw for Czech (along with Georgia loss) and they could scrape through with 2 points should results in Group C go in their favour . If so, they'd be the side to face England.

I'd say England will most realistically face 3rd from D/F, but couldn't tell you how good Czech are.

I wouldn't be shocked go see ADEF be then route and England face Czech/Turkey/Georgia In Gelsenkirchen.
