2023/24 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Little bit OTT. He was very good for a year under Carlo but even then the ratio was just about one in two so that was peak DCL.

Would need two very good cup runs for him even to get over 20 as you're talking a Haaland scoring ratio if it's better.
Would find it fascinating to see how many goals people think Haaland would score in our setup.

Know it totally imaginary as he’d down tools and demand a transfer in the unlikely event he’d been here in the first place but think it would highlight how many think it a DCL specific issue versus an issue with the team itself (a camp which I am basically in).

Anyone care to place their bets and state their case, or the reverse for that matter - how many would Dom score at City?

Dom would score less than haaland at city because H is an unreal finisher
Haaland would do well for us but not much better than peak Dom, who also holds the ball up better which we need in this style.

Our strikers feed off scraps

Haaland is built for a team that creates a lot of chances and he finishes them off.

He'd probably score 20-25 for us this season.

DCL at city 12-15 goals.

Haaland is at 25 for City in the PL this season with superb service and more minutes than Dom (2297 vs 2035 according to Whoscored) so don’t you think that upper bound of your range seems a tad high given the comparative number of chances we present our strikers? We don’t really have long cup runs to add to their tallies.

I honestly don’t have a good feel for what Dom would do at City. Tbh thought Lukaku would do much better at United/Chelsea than it turned out - he scored 25 for us in 16/17 and only 16 for United the following season.

Check the amount of chances we make and its alot higher than most expect.

Then compare those chances with Haalands xg.

Once you have that you can divide by 40-50% and you'll have the number for DCL.

Higher amount of chances than City?

Edit - sorry, phrased that wrong. Surely for Haaland to score 25 for us he’d need a similar number of chances as he has got at City? And we might make more chances than some give us credit for but is it really in the same ballpark as City?

What sort of contract do you give him though?

He isn't accepting a wage cut at this stage of his career as someone else in the prem would hand him a four year deal on increased salary now he's proven he can start 30 games in a season again without breaking down.

Also nowhere near the age where he'd just accept 12 month extensions to protect value.

Under the present restrictions it's a big gamble to give him a lucrative long term deal. New legitimate owners and then it's a serious option.
yeah great point , if only we knew what the future held, as we could also say we know what we could get from him, we also know he is coming into the prime age for a striker for a few years so we've done the groundwork with him and seen him through some tough times, why hand him on a plate to another side, it should be us to reap the rewards. He needs either competition or a playmate (or both), decoure has done a great job in the last 2 years but his goals and contributions have dried up. Chermiti may be a bit too green to step up into this role just yet, but id rather DCL got a contract than Dele, Holgate et al

some of the recorded chances missed for DCL are a bit harsh, I'm thinking of the towering leaps and he does incredibly well just to get a head on the ball but he cant direct it properly or there is little power. Had he been crap at jumping, he wouldn't have got a head to it and it wouldn't be recorded as a missed chance

He would score 20-25 for us over a season quite easily. You literally posted hes only played 2297mins & DCL 2035.

Whats City creating more chances got to do with it?

Once you extrapolate the mins and xg over a season then Haaland 20-25 and DCL 12-15.

Ok? Imagine him doing those "towering leaps" at City while they pass it to feet and he holds it up for the rest of them. Hes not curling in 30 yarders and without doubt he would be lucky to reach 15 goals as he doesnt fit their team.

Haaland up top for us probably finishes off double DCLs chances and over a season those are going to be Lukaku numbers.
