Relegation 23/24 Thread

What happens when Emery walks because he can’t develop his team without selling his best players? The only buyers for his best players? The teams he’s trying to compete with

Emery is a World class manager so he'll be the big loss when he goes. Anyone know if he was ever in contention for this job? He was actually available in December 2019 but could imagine it would've been a negative reaction given his Arsenal spell.

Anyway Villa appointed Slippy and he guided them to 17th after spending 150m and hugely increasing the wage bill so that's where a poor manager can wreak havoc on a decent squad of players as Villa did actually have.

And?

My point is that Villa have already had to go through that ‘having to sell their best player’ scenario in selling Grealish, and it didn’t hinder them, it helped them.

They were in our position right now before selling Grealish.

Over half a billion pound spent over something like 7 years and we’ve still been fighting relegation over the last few season. Would you be confident that if we had to sell some of our better players we would be okay?

If he walks, Villa will deal with it; they won’t cease to exist or anything.

The point is that selling some of our high value players can potentially allow us an opportunity to improve, like Villa did after selling Grealish.

Relegation would be a disaster, but selling a young centre half for a figure in line with the prize money for winning the Champions League will not.

Branthwaite and Onana are goners in the summer. One early on I reckon for the books. It’ll be a year of scrambling around again. Joy.
It's why they've not moved Keane on. It's why Godfrey is getting a run now, to get him up to game speed. Leicester look like staying up I reckon next season, they're going through their rebuild now and will have spends and wage room in the summer.
We're likely to lose Onana, release Young, Gomes, and Alli, Gana another year closer to calling it all a day.
We've watched other sides before stockpile not great players and end up relegated and haemorrhaging money, We'll need top dollar for Onana, Branthwaite, Maupay, just to tread water. £26million on Beto when Lukaku has a release clause of £37million.

Anyone spot a 23 year old right winger in any league in Europe? There's got to be someone that can cross a ball with his right foot and run a bit.

This is true. But then you look at Kevin Thelwell and optimism evaporates...

Mad how bad slippy did there when you think on it

You’ve got more faith in our club than me then mate.

I’m just trying to keep it real. Relegation would be a real disaster, make no mistake. But player trading is an opportunity if it’s done right.

Take away the points deductions, and you will see evidence that our player trading over the last couple of years has actually strengthened our side!

Our defence and our midfield have been significantly strengthened compared to the Benitez and Lampard years. They are better players, which should really be occupying a midtable position!
