But it was probably bigger than the British Empire in proportion to the amount of land discovered at the time and they invented loads of stuff that we still use today in some form. Plus all their Emperors had boss names.

Depends what you mean by discovered though, they knew of China and India and had traded with them before, it's also possible that the Carthaginians had sailed around the Cape of Good Hope and begun exploring the African interior which Europeans didn't do until well into the 19th Century.

A lot of the English in Portugal did have a certain '[Poor language removed] you - We're here now - you can p*ss off' attitude. Looks like some of the immigrants here are quite similar. Having said that I've met lots of lovely Polish girsl. :)

Bingo. I've found that in every place I've been to.

The English are in no position to critical of how others behave in their country, which for the record is a hell of a lot better than they do in other countries.

Meh, what I said to a polish PR guy in krakow who wouldn't let us into a club. He thought we were on a stag do and was like 'you english always come here and mess the place up' or something (even though we wern't doing anything and are generally well behaved lads) and I said to him 'yeah we might come for a weekend and act like [Poor language removed], but at least we act like [Poor language removed] and then go home'. Got out of there pretty sharpish.

No way was the Roman Empire the greatest empire of all time! They copied all their ideas from Greece, they had no genuine free thinkers and the people lived in an oppressive regime where people would 'go missing' all the time.

I'd sum it up as a worker ant empire, with no imagination and very poor dress sense.

Fewer "free thinkers" perhaps - but many more great generals, engineers, businessmen, historians, writers, orators etc; and they managed to create a society that was by almost any measurable statistic better than anything seen on the entire planet before the 19th century (which is of course why most of European history since has actively looked back to it as an inspiration).

What infuriates me is the comments below. Their fans actually believe this utter bull**** they keep getting fed. They actually convince themselves they and their players are in the right.

If Aldo didn't exist someone would have to invent him. He's like a caricature of a kopite. They all lap him up as well. F***ing funny sh1t.

Aldo epitomises the Liverpool Way: deny, deflect, accuse. I dont know what that is in latin but it should be the club motto.

The same Aldo who spent a couple of weeks explaining to us ignorant mortals the cultural & linguistic nuances of the word Negrito, which never even appeared in the report from the FA? Ha ha
