FIRST FEMALE PL REFEREE.

This thread went exactly as I thought it would. Loads of casual misogyny dressed up as banter. Do better everyone. This should be something to be championed, not something to make a crappy joke about.
In all seriousness I would suggest an equally competent yet more honest refereeing performance than any male referee. This on the grounds that "the network" of corruption won't have felt comfortable approaching her one on one, plus there's no acceptability for a bloke to casually enter her changing room with a wad of notes to buy a result. This is, of course, assuming the network of corruption is all male (yeah ... a bit misandrist of me I know).

One thing is for sure, any male who criticises an error, just as they would criticise the error of any male referee, is likely to be hauled before the court of Women's Hour* and impaled by the m-word. It will be a brave man or media that comments on a sub par performance, if it happens.

*Which might be more prone to using context and evidence somewhat more ably than some of the blerts on here who love to swing that sword.

I'm sure she'll be fine and of the level of the already adequate levels of refereeing at PL level. Mistakes happen, some bigger than others, but people need to stop crying about every little decision that goes against them and accept that the people making a decision may have a different take on it then 100% biased supporters and pundits who don't know what the actual laws of the game are as jigged about seemingly every six months by IFAB.

There's absolute howlers from time to time but that's true of any industry or pretty much any sport. Most decisions derided as terrible or disgraceful are quite often just a bit questionable or open to interpretation but ultimately understandable if you remove bias and lack of knowledge of the actual written laws.

The Big Six conspiracy is the best one. First it was Man U bias, then Big 4 bias, the up to 6 before Saudi Newcastle came along and made it 7. When you actually look at questionable decisions given there just isn't a consistent observable bias there. Even Everton get the rub of the green sometimes despite the conspiracies around about the marketing driven campaign to get them relegated.

On the one hand you want to congratulate her for reaching the top of her chosen profession.
On the other hand, she comes from the same pool which gave us the likes of David Coote, so is she going to be as bad as the rest of today’s current crop?

It’ll be interesting to see the reaction when she’s on the receiving end of Jurgen foaming at the mouth or one of Guardiola’s on pitch pep talks at the end of a match.

I’d say it’s mostly satirical comments, playing up to the kind you would expect to see from an oafish footy fan.

Or at least mine was.

I think it’s definitely something that should be championed. I can’t believe more hasn’t been made of the fact we’re seeing the first black PL referee in 15 years either.
How’s that even been able to happen?

Good luck to her. We should really have reached a point where this isn't news, but we haven't yet, so I hope she does well. Tbh to make it this far in such a male dominated profession I think she will have had to be better than most of the other refs at her level, and I'm sure as soon as she makes a medium/big error her sex will become a cause for abuse (mainly by fans/some pundits). At the (low) level I play at female refs tend to get a bit more "respect" than their male counterparts, but I fully expect PL players to be equally abusive to her as they are all the male refs whenever she makes a decision they don't agree with!
