Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Shane MacGowan. Mourners danced at his funeral which is such a credit to the man and the legacy he left us.

Have come all over emotional watching the RTE Late late show on him šŸ˜€

We must celebrate the genius amongst us.
It won't help mate that you'll still be emotionally traumatised by the events of the past few weeks. The slightest things kick me off these days. Doesn't need to be sad either, happy things are just as bad.lol It's so frequent I've just come to accept it as the norm. Just embrace it.

Think the Shane MacGowan funeral was always going to be that type of affair. A reflection on the man himself and the lifestyle he led.

Did you get to listen to the two yes albums? What did you think? They're the type of albums (or group for that matter) that take more than one listen.

I doubt Rick will be playing any of those tracks at the concert anyway, given that they all take up a whole side of an album. perhaps close to the edge.
Just listening to Close to the Edge now. Absolutely Rick on the church organ. Unfortunately still can't get used to / like Jon Andersons voice but if I ignore that the music is great.
You are spot on about Topographical Oceans. Very tough to get into and extremely self indulgent.

The real star picks of my haul were Soft Cell and Paul Simon Songbook. It's a stripped back version of his early S&G stuff with just his voice and acoustic guitar. Despite the recording being 1965 the record is pristine and quality wonderful, only £3 too!

I call them "moments", and they literally spring up out of nowhere as you say. But it's all part of the grieving process Anj. You'll probably find you'll feel it more over the festive period too.

Agreed on Beto. Some of the fans on here give our players such a hard time if they don't become superstars immediately. It's why I'm so pleased that the likes of Myko, McNeil and Onana are doing so well now. Some of the stuff written about them last season on here was horrendous. I'm sure Beto will come good too and the same for Patterson.

On a different note I'm getting in touch with the younger me by watching a fair bit of tik tok. There's a fantastic clip where some Newcastle player is squaring up to Pickford at the end, and Branthwaite stepped in to protect him. I mean he's 21 FFS. lol
What I like about Beto is that despite his obvious technical flaws he tries his heart out and is so desperate to do well.
A great player to bring on against a tiring defence and we are defending a lead.

True mate. I’m feeling a bit raw at the minute and teary at the drop of a hat.

I’m celebrating the Pogues today though, very happy memories of listening to them with my granny šŸ˜€.

Where's the reindeer? Or have you eaten them all?
I am surprised you missed the hand on his knee ! No wonder he was smiling . The reindeer were being fed ,they have to eat a lot now so they can do all the travel without getting hungry .
A good watch for the festive season ,https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0772176/ it is even for old farts like us .

Hello everybody. Thank you for your kind words and shared experiences. I was comparing notes with one of my friends who lost his Mum in June. He said he had a similar moment in M&S when he saw a jumper and thought Mum would love that for Christmas.
Today I did overtime then I've been wrapping some presents for our friends who are going on a cruise over Christmas. I absolutely hate wrapping stuff. It is never neat, everything looks like a portion of fish and chips and I'm forever losing the end of the sellotape. My personal hell would be spending eternity gift wrapping while watching Ant and Dec.
Enjoy your break @Val P.

Me too, not mention losing the gift tags and forgetting where I put the scissors.

Had a bit of a moment in town this morning, memories of my Dad came flooding back. Dad loved brass bands and the Salvation Army were playing in the shopping centre as we walked through. He was in the Royal Navy in the war and whilst travelling to a new posting he fell asleep on Lime Street station, when he awoke he had been robbed of his wallet, which not only contained his money but travel warrant etc. He was only 17. Not knowing what to do someone pointed him in the direction of The Salvation Army who helped him, after that he had a great respect for the SA, despite having little time for any form of relgion.

It’s the moments that catch you unawares. My Mum loved Wizzard I wish it could be Christmas and would dance round the room with our two and later the grandchildren, I always brace myself when going in shops in case it is playing. I had a moment in Asda the other day not because of the music but something said by the assistant. As she gave me my change she said ā€œThank you very much, bless youā€ memories of Mum came flooding back. Didnt matter who it was family, shop assistants, medical staff my Mum would always reply ā€œThank you very much, my duck, bless youā€. I told the assistant how good it was to hear someone say it and she replied ā€œYour Mum sounds like a lovely ladyā€, brought a tear to my eye and without thinking I replied ā€œShe was, bless youā€ we both had a laugh. Don’t know what the rest of the people in the queue thought, well I probably do ā€œ Cut the cackle and get on with itā€ lol
Aw that’s lovely

I’m the same, already today I’ve filled up at Christmas carols and my favourite rescue dog being reserved, and then again for her sister who hasn’t. Do you think it’s an age thing? I’m certainly getting more emotional as I get older
