It was like something from a horror film.

All you could hear was the sound of screaming and then as we rounded the corner of the trail, there was three girls writhing on the floor, covered in these orange insects.

There was a nest in hollow tree next to the trail and it looks like people running past have aggravated them.

Looks a very interesting route, what distance did you do?

Am trying to fill the calendar with as many trail runs as possible, but coming from the south, there's a lot of travelling involved

I was reading recently, because of the amount we have seen, how they are actually really dosile but when they sting they can multiple times at once. Which is my they are more dangerous

Apparently the Asian hornet is over here and "attacking" the domestic.

And according to the daily mail they don't sting immigrants, so they are very clever

It’s two routes :

17.5 or 10.6

I did the 10.6 today, but did the 17.5 last year.

Most of the trail / hill stuff ( as you know ) is in the Lakes / York’s or Wales.

The Lakeland Trails series are without the best - friendly, superbly organised, great courses and a choice of two entry levels - race / challenge ( for non competitive runners )

So it would be a weekend job for you in the Smoke.

Yeah it's crap being in the south isn't it lol

I'm doing the great Eastern in a few weeks but every trail around here sells out before I find out... cos their aren't many

Not going to disagree with that.

Tis my hometown that is staging that, and I can't say its an interesting route. But it is city centre then out around the peripheral housing areas so gets good support.

was very impressed with Lakeland trails in the one event in coniston some 9 years ago. It's that memory that has me filling up the calendar for the next year. Drove up early morning for that one and drove home straight after.
Was in Grasmere few weeks back and took the missus and five year old up to easedale tarn, to get them onside.

If your going to bring the family, I highly recommend their Coniston weekend, as it’s almost like a country show based around running, theres that much going on.

The half marathon is very runnable and incredibly scenic and if you want something a bit tougher, the 15K takes you up the Old Man of Coniston and that has some incredible views too.

It has a monster climb at the start though !

I know loads of places to stay too.

Thanks, its on the calendar. The 15k on the Saturday is the one I did some year's back. Just remember hurtling down on the return leg, sometimes uncontrollable, trying not to apply the brakes too hard on the loose stuff

Less than three weeks until Manchester half, my Garmin is predicting 1h45 but as it's my first one would be happy with just finishing it! Apparently the atmosphere is usually really good so hoping to enjoy the day with a few scoops after it.

Don`t make the cardinal mistake, that a lot of runners do in their first race and go off too fast.

It`s very easy to get carried away and try to go off with the front of the pack, only to blow yourself out.

If you`re looking at 1hr 45, you should be finishing with the top end of the middle group, so aim to start in the middle of the pack, until you get into your stride and then work your way forward if you feel comfortable.

Since I had my first bout of covid three years ago, which messed my lungs up, I now start near the back and the amount of runners, who`ve gone too hard, too fast, that I start to pick off from mile 8 onwards is unreal.

Have you noticed any recovery or improvement?

I find running a lot harder since covid but could also be due to getting older. Never really timed myself much so is hard to say. Rarely get into an enjoyable stride or rhythm now though.

For the past month, I`ve religiously been using a brown inhaler ( preventer ) first thing in the morning and last thing at night and it`s made a massive difference.

I`m running times now, that aren`t far off what I was running before the lergy.

I was quite sceptical of whether it would work, but it`s deffo made a difference.

How do you get one of these? You think I could get one for hiking? That ruins me since I had COVID a few times.

Make an appt with the GP and explain to the GP that covid has goosed your lungs and you`ll get a script for one.

You have to use it every morning and last thing at night for it to work through, as I was just using to now and then to begin with and it didn`t make any difference.

It was only when I started using it every day that it started to work.
