It definitely makes us weaker as a squad in my opinion I think Begovic was a very good player to have and since we've had good options like Begovic and Olsen Pickfords form has improved maybe its the competition or maybe its just the standard in training. But now we're an injury to Pickford away from relying on a kid with no experience who I don't think is even very highly rated its a big risk.

If Pickford gets injured then we’re weaker because we’ve lost Pickford, which would also have been the case last season when we had Begovic.

If this is true, this is the reason we are run so badly, signing players who are on the way down for stupid money and stupid wages, when we have an excellent prospect in Branthwaite young hungry and very low wage, who united actually want (says it all) who is as good as maguire, yes he will make the odd mistake but so will maguire.

This board has to go it's as simple as that nothing will change whilst the clowns in charge have this ehos as a club, to consistently go down this route of signing players who are on the decline
Dont be scared we are not signing Maguire.

Well yes obviously! But Begovic is better than Virginia too so the squad isn't as good in that area so if Pickford stays fit its not an issue but if he doesn't it is thats why i said its a risk. Its the same with the defenders Mina and Coady weren't always in the team so you could say losing them doesn't make any difference but only if you're stupid.

I don't think Branthwaite is enough to see us safely through a season, just yet.
Lack of goals and years of mismanagement will relegate us.
The fact that our second best defender left on a free will relegate us, the fact that we can’t sell the deadwood due to awful contracts will relegate us.
The lack of funds combined with the overwhelming priority being attacking players will cause our defence to step up or blow out.
Branthwaite could be a very valuable asset if we actually develop him properly. We undervalue all our assets and literally give away players it’s a joke. People clown Tom Davies but the fact we didn’t sell him and he left on a free is a mess, average premier league players have a value, but our dreadful mismanagement of players and numbers has pulled the plug on any steady income. Didn’t we let Nknouko go for peanuts? He’s making multi million pound moves now. If we don’t play Branthwaite, he’ll end up going for buttons or on a free too, if he’s not going to play then sell him.
We say things like ‘I’d take 1 million for X player’ then complain when the RS actually sell their youth products for decent money. No wonder

Last season, all of the bottom half was in a religation fight, for most of the season. We stayed up without a striker for most of it. We were only 8 points behind Chelsea in 12th.

Now I don't think Chelsea are going to do that again. But 8 points isn't that much over a season. It's definitely achievable.

Also agree. Take West Ham for example. Only safe right near the end, partially because they successfully prioritised European Competition. They are playing at a higher standard of European competition next year, have lost their lynchpin player in Rice, already had quite an aging squad and seem even worse (if that is possible) in the transfer market than us, allegedly missing multiple targets or not willing to pay higher than market values with everyone knowing they have the Rice cash in the bank.

I have seen pundits saying Palace might be a dark horse - really? They have also lost their key player in Zaha, replaced by an unproven young Brazilian in Franca who was not a regular starter and quite likely to lose Olise due to his release clause. Not convinced over a whole season Hodgson maintains last year's performance let alone betters it.

Wolves seem to have real problems and seem to be willing to risk relegation to stabilise financially and I have a hunch that the Brighton bubble may burst.

Add to that the promoted sides, Burnley aside (due to having Kompany as boss), I would have thought it highly unlikely that Sheff Utd or Luton will come bursting into the league - success for them will be finishing 17th.

In my mind everyone other than the usual top teams, an improved Chelsea under Poch and Villa (who have invested well and have a good manager) are fighting it out from top-mid table to the bottom of the league.

I am not foolish enough to think that we cannot be dragged in and I don't expect it to be a season of thrills but I do think it is one of those seasons where there is as much chance of us finishing comfortably in 12th as there is going down. What happens between now and the transfer deadline for us and a number of clubs may dictate exactly where in that mix we end up.

Wolves, Luton and Sheff Utd will all be down there I think - especially if, as rumoured, Lopetegui quits.
I also think Fulham could be in a spot of bother. Lost/losing some key players and they massively outperformed their xG for and against last season, which is not sustainable in the long term. If they get on a bad run, we know Silva struggles a bit to reverse the slump.

Palace I'm not sure about - Hodgson seems to know what he's doing there - but Zaha and Olise will be massive misses.

Brighton will be fine - they probably won't hit the heights of last season, with a Europa League campaign to distract them, but can't see them lower than 10th

Agree, the whole way at which the club values players and treats players contracts is dreadful and has been for years, it's happened under various DoF so it's another thing that must be being directed from the boardroom. Just look at Saints (recently relegated) grabbing a possible £40m for a player who not less than 6 months ago there were doubts as to whether he would ever play again. We have to hope that MSP sort out stuff like this and hopefully appoint proper people to these sort of roles.

Coady played loads and Mina was fit and available and actually made a huge difference when he did play so it’s not really the same as that at all. Begovic played once

3 of those never played ffs

This is what I don’t get.

Mina (didn’t play/permacrocked) out, Branthwaite (might play, might not) Back.
Simms out (didn’t ply), Chermitti (will play) in
Gray out (Dyche clearly doesn’t rate), Danjuma in
Begovic out (didn’t play), Virginia back.
Vinagre out (didn’t play) Young in

Gomes/Gbammin gone - not an issue
Coady gone (barely played under Dyche)
And small %age chance of Delle actually being in squad.

So we need one CB and effective squad size hasn’t changed. And of all the players gone how many minutes did they collectively get under Dyche in half a season??
