TV Series

Some smashing Japanese actors around these days. Takeshi Kitano for example is one of my favourites, up there with the best in history.
It doesn't really matter. Mifune owned the role, and it can't be taken back. It's like asking anyone other than Ian Mcshane to be Gaiman's Odin.

That said, the quality of Japanese actors these days is incredible. Should you disagree, watch the most recent John Wick. Dude kills it.

Sanada...quality
I was thinking of Donnie Yen, but yes, they both wreck. First-rate characters, both.

The nice thing about John Wick is that it was character-driven from day one. It's about a guy who knows a guy, who killed a guy. It's not about the action. It's about the slow-rolls on camera in between. This is why you recruit Sanada for the franchise.

He's a honky mate...

Youre from HK

Interesting he was born in China but had HK citizenship at birth...then US and then back to HK.

Never knew that...thought he was born in HK.
So, over here, 'honky' refers to those who have the ability to be admitted to certain rallies by descent. I think we hit a language barrier on this one.

It is the closest thing to porn i've ever witnessed on a "TV Show". Completeley gratuitously, just for shock value.
Read about this....is it only Depps daughter who repeatedly gets her kit off or...is it an orgy of boobies?

I don't think it is or even anywhere near it. I think there are dozens of series that have a lot more nudity and explicit sex than this. Anybody watching it for pure titillation will no doubt enjoy the frequent shots of Depp's boobs and the skimpy clothing she wears throughout, but that's about the extent of the nudity.

What I will say is that the controlling nature of the sex/nudity scenes does make for a very uncomfortable watch, which is the main reason I raised the question a couple of pages ago. This "controlling" theme is what underpins the whole storyline and I think it would be very difficult to tell this story without the nudity and sex scenes. In that regard I don't believe them to be at all gratuitous. But I could fully understand why anybody would want to turn off.

There's no denying that Lily-Rose Depp is stunningly pretty and overall I think she's doing a pretty good job of a very challenging part. Very brave of her to take it on and also very brave of the producers to make a show focusing on such a taboo subject. Sadly it's incredibly believable.

I think that’s next for me….heard really good things about it. I’m currently doing ’The Wire’ as too many people have raved about it, I’m in season 2 ep5, so have about three more seasons before I move on to Silo. Still need to do Breaking Bad and The Sopranos
At the start of the year I vowed to watch those three classics, none of which I'd seen before.

All done now. Each is rewarding in it's own way.

I'd simply counsel anyone not to watch The Sopranos without breaks. It gets right into your head and can become an obsession.

I remember watching shows like Rome and Tudors back in the day thinking they were porn.
