He was never that good. Played well against City when they all played well and that's about it. He obviously had his purple patch early.

He was never seen as that big of a deal coming through either.

Not sure that’s true.

He was in the golden boy rankings. Got asked to train with the England seniors as a teenager. Was trusted to play first team PL football for a side with European aspirations as a teenager ahead of established teammates by Martinez Unsworth/Ferguson Koeman Allardyce.

He was plastered all over the marketing for the new stadium doing keepy ups at Bramley Moore docks.

I remember distinctly at the time that Everton fans were calling Davies a future captain, future England player, and possessed everything that Barkley should have had in terms of work rate desire aggression leadership etc.

It’s been a massive fall from grace and there’s no way to dress it up as anything else.

Quite simply as a teenager he was standing out against established PL opponents. Now he’s not even PL standard. There’s no way playing like he is now that any of those previous Everton managers would have even considered him, let alone played him as a teenager over far more senior international teammates like Schneiderlin Barry Klaasen Siggurdson Vlasic etc.

I have not seen any comments about his future anywhere, apart from on here, do we know he is definitely leaving and not being offered a new contract ?

I know there was a previous mention of moving to Glasgow Rangers

No way will he be offered a new contract.

If he doe's, it is proof positive that no lessons have been learnt, and there are 'decision makers' in our club who cannot recognise a decent footballer.

Show him the door the day his contract ends.

Watching Everton since the mid 1960's, Tom is a nice lad, but one of the most 'invisible' midfielders I have ever seen in a royal blue jersey.

Im not sure he was 'standing out', but initially I thought he did well to compete. Could simply be a case of he had picked up certain things at a young age which meant he led his age groups, but has stagnated massively since becoming a senior player.

His time is up anyway, should have been sold a couple of years ago. Had we gone down there may have been a place for him but I cant see him being anywhere above the level of the championship.

Alas Poor Tom, it's a fairly unanimous toodle pip from the fans.

Soon to be cast into world football forum. A shame, but they can't all work out in the first team.

I never felt he was as bad as people stated… I used to wish to see Tom start ahead of the plodding Gomes cos I knew he came with energy and showed up a lot more.

Probably not as good as we hoped, but not as bad as we think.
