Been saying it for the last two months. We are going down. Our only chance of staying up was the January window. We failed to bring anyone in for what ever the reason was. That was the nail in the coffin.
We have the right manager imo for where we are as a club. If we can keep a few players from this team, we should come back up. But this is Everton so you never know what can happen.

Would be good to get some clarity on the DCL situation. Table does not make good reading. The positive is I think it is good if Southampton and Bournemouth can get cut adrift. If we can cling to the back of the pack we might be able to edge past one of the other teams. For me Forest and Palace look worse than Leeds and West Ham but they have a cushion. If Forest beat us in a week then we can write them off as someone we can overtake

Its a bad day, especially with such a difficult fixture next

How we react will determine our season

My biggest concern is that game showed all our biggest concerns are genuine. No matter how well we compete in matches we cannot turn pressure into goals and we haven't good as good a defence as we think.

Today is who we are. A competitive and workmanlike team but totally lacking in attacking threat. I'm not convinced that's enough to survive this season

Games (& seasons) can turn on a moment though, on another day we score in that goaline melee, defend well and as the opposition presses we carve out some unmissable chances and win by a few goals. Once a striker gets a goal, be it off a shin, bum or ear suddenly then puts them on a roll.

I'd be much much more worried if we weren't creating chances at all. Litmus test is how we go from here, lose without any fight in the next two and it might show the players have reverted to type. Until then there isn't much point in worrying about it too much, we've lost to Villa last few seasons playing worse than we did today.

I think the evidence suggests our lack of goals is down to ability and not luck. A team with good forwards converts that pressure into at least 1 goal. This is our level.

Only hope is if Simms can start slotting

Dyche will need to start selecting him for that though
May as well because the only other option, assuming DCL remains absent, is Maupay and he doesn’t score either. Simms offers more in general in my opinion than Maupay who is really poor
