The Dead Thread

Same here, it's an age thing I suppose. I grew up listening to the Ska revival, and the Specials were a great band. I loved the way they managed to mix politics and anti-racism with great music.
Yes mate, totally unique in this respect.
I was on a cruise and the house band amongst their normal popular stuff suddenly struck up this one which I thought was a randomly brilliant surprise, musically did it justice but couldn't give it the high energy Specials version.

Didn’t know that. Thought he was a Cov fan. The Specials were formerly The Coventry Specials and before that The Coventry Automatics. Pauline Black’s home city as well.
RIP Terry.
Yep, obviously a Glory Hunter ? Remember seeing the Coventry Automatics supporting The Clash about 1978 in Brum. He was also offered a trial for West Brom in his youth but his parents didn't fancy the trek over to West Brom every day.

Went to see the Specials in 2009 at the 100 club in Oxford Street in London. My daughter won 2 tickets in a competition. It was in the summer and it was like a sauna in there. Neville Staples had no shirt on and was running around like crazy with the sweat pouring off him and there's Terry as cool as anything wearing a three piece suit and tie. Also funny enough Terry said I believe some of you won tickets for this you f ing mingebags. An absolutely fantastic night. Also Mark Lamarr was the compere that night and was hilarious. Also Phil Jupiter's was also there and my daughter had her photo taken with him and said he was a lovely man. Got outside and had to wring my shirt out?
