and a very crap captain when it comes to captaining on the pitch, but that's a whole different ball game. Again, not the "calling up Tarks to tell him how it is", the "he hides from this responsibility on the field instead of being in the ref's ear for everything like EVERY CAPTAIN IN FOOTBALL".
I agree, to differing extents, with most of that post. He definitely deserves the fullest praise for his service to the club and the team.
However, the bit I left above I completely disagree with. The reason being that some people have issues with how every Everton captain acts. Not every captain is screaming in the refs ear every time a foul is given against. I don't like it and it should not be the norm, I see Coleman being there when a controversial foul has been given, he is not in the ref's face but asking questions, in the right way. This does not mean he is not leading, if anything he is showing kids who look at him the right way to go about it.
Some fans have this obsession with captains needing to be screaming in the refs face all the time. As said, I see him in the frame of the picture talking to the ref, when he feels it is needed. If we want refs to improve then player behaviour needs to improve and for me Coleman always looks for the respectful way to complain/discuss some situations with the ref.
That for me is being an excellent captain. Plus, I will add, we have a few 'captains' on the pitch. A football captain doesn't need to be the focal point, if there are other strong personalities/leaders on the pitch. It is not like Rugby or Cricket, as examples, where a captain is pivotal in some or all of the scenarios that can happen during the course of a game.
