Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

The new log burner is absolutely magic! Bloke installed it this morning, more to it than meets the eye, (isnt it always?), and just started the 3rd little fire before I can start a proper one later. The 3 little ones do sommet with moisture and kind of primes it, apparently.

The fella is local to Portishead, and turns out we had quite a few mutual mates. Including Stu from the pub who provided the logs. He was happy that the fuel was from him.

Gee whizz. First grown up fire, and after half an hour the snug is warm as toast! £70 on 2/3 months of logs from Stu at the pub seems a decent alternative to FloGas. The whole house is warmer as well, not just the snug. Putting me shorts on for tea and footie later.

Go to any woodworkers and they may well give you their small offcuts to burn, also broken pallets are normally available free ,it will help you get 4/5 months from the wood. You can get a special stripping bar for pallets as they have a lot of naoös in the joints .I use an old loudspeaker magnet to get them out of the fire . Have you seen these they work on a woderful system that exchanges the heat for electricity and they move about 400 cubic metres per hour -just dont put them on the hottest part as they have a max.temperature :- https://www.amazon.co.uk/Stove-Top-Fan/s?k=Stove+Top+Fan

We had a lovely stove on our narrow boat, and it kept the whole thing absolutely toasty without needing to put the radiators on unless it was very icy.

Based on our experiences from it, we've got a multi-fuel burner in the back room, and it's great and can be cost-effective. The heat is dry but very cosy.

Just make sure your flue is well maintained, as we had issues there.
