Romelu Lukaku says he has no regrets about turning down Champions League football with Juventus to join Everton permanently. The Belgium striker became the Merseyside club's record signing when he completed a £28 million move from Chelsea in July. Lukaku hit 16 goals in 33 appearances as he spent last season on loan at Goodison Park, helping Roberto Martinez's side finish fifth in the Premier League. But he has struggled to match that form this season, scoring only twice in 10 games for his club.

Despite a difficult start to the campaign, with Everton in the bottom four after winning one of their opening seven league games, Lukaku has no regrets about rejecting the Italian champions. "I thought about Serie A and Juventus because they are a big club," he told the Sunday People. "But for me Everton was perfect. "I'm here and I'm happy. I don't regret any choices I've made. Everton was the best choice I could make as a young player who wants to progress and develop. "This club is a good fit for me. They made so many efforts to get me. I feel at home here."

Everton earned a place in this season's Europa League by finishing fifth in the top flight last season. And even though they have made a poor start this time around, the club can still win a Champions League place, according to Lukaku.
He said: "Everton play good football, we play at the top part of the league and everyone wants to win. We want to show that last year wasn't a fluke. "Our mission is to get that Champions League slot because it was in our hands last season and we let it slip."

Lukaku is also adamant that being the most expensive signing in Everton's history does not put him under added pressure.
He said: "Pressure? For me it's just about not losing my drive. My mind is always focused on football. "When I go into the training ground, I want to be the best - and when the weekend comes, it's always going to be the same. I want to be the best and I want to help my team-mates out."

Lukaku, who is teetotal, says he will continue to life a quiet life off the pitch as he bids to help turn around Everton's season. He said: "I prefer to stay home. I never went out a lot even when I was a kid growing up in Belgium. I've never had a glass of alcohol in my life either. It's out of my comfort zone and I don't know how to act. "I'm very shy. When people know me, like here at Everton, they know I'm a crazy guy who likes to joke around and tease. But when I don't know you, at first I'm very cold."

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho claimed that Lukaku didn't have enough fight in him to win a regular first-team place at Stamford Bridge. But the striker said: "Chelsea was difficult because I'd always been a first-team player at my other clubs.
"At 16 I went into the Anderlecht side, the best team in Belgium. I had my chance and I took it. I was top scorer there and we won the league and I then scored even more. "When I went to Chelsea I knew it would be hard but I proved in some games I deserved a chance.

"At some point you have to make the decision: Do you want to be a squad member or do you want to build your career?
"I chose the latter and I think I am in a team now where there is that ambition to be one of those big teams."

Like to see players have ambition, he wants to be at the top, well he should. and to be the best, he must play score for us and play well. Nothing wrong with wanting to be the best.
