Why on earth would Everton fans believe Paul McCartney would consider ploughing a few hundred million of his hard earned dough into something he doesn't give the slightest **** about?

And is this Ukrainian fella a new shout or has his name done the rounds before?

DESPERATE Everton fans want Sir Paul McCartney to save their football club, by buying it.

The cash-strapped club has been approached by an investment consortium led by Ukrainian billionaire Oleg Bakhmatyuk.

But fans would prefer the 70-year-old Beatles star to take over.

An online petition has 4,500 signatures so far.

It reads: “We, the fans, have started a petition to appeal to Beatles legend and Liverpool native son Paul McCartney to purchase our illustrious football club.

“We believe the team could face serious financial disaster in the hands of Mr Bakhmatyuk and Bakhmatyuk’s company, Avangardco Investments.”

Edit: Found the petition. But its got 53 signatures and not 4,500 as that comic states.

Edit edit: 54 now (couldn't help meself)

There's more chance of the original Beatles getting back together. Paul McCartney, when pushed, admitted years ago he "was more Blue than Red". And that's about the extent of his football knowledge. Now, if we promised him top billing in the pre-match entertainment for every game... but then I'd worry about Season Ticket sales.

So, why wait until Moyes left? ( I know the story is uber gash btw)
