Got to say even though we didn't get through in the end I thought the Fiorentina game was one of the best Goodison nights in a long time, the atmosphere was boss and so were the team
For bringing a sense of belonging to the top half of the Prem - something we've only managed sporadically since Catterick (yeah, 3 seasons under Kendall and a little bit beyond but, let's be honest, 1971-2002 apart from 3 great years has been mostly a big struggle). We've not had this since Catterick so, even if it's not titles or cups it's still great to hold your heads up and stand toe to toe against the best.
We could beat anyone on our day - the style wasn't always great, the away performances not always pretty but we still got the job done. Not too many awful days home or away - for half a season (05-06) and the back end of 03-04 we were awful but that's not a lot in 11 years.
For all the great buys - Cahill, Arteta, Coleman, Baines, Jags, Fellaini etc etc - by far outweighing the disasters.
For turning players like Osman into internationals - getting the best of almost everyone who ever played for us.
For the way we took City on, and, as often or not, Chelsea and Spurs
For more highs that lows. For having bucket loads of dignity when all around him in football there is virtually none.
