Not true.

It is true in many, many cases, particularly but not only in defensive positions. It is only players who absolutely rely on pace who fade when their pace starts to go. The biggest mistake that people can make is not to believe that football is a game that is played with the brain as well as the feet and head. At Everton, we saw the best years of Richard Gough, David Weir and many more in their later years. Bobby Collins, many years ago, was sold too soon and propelled an average Leeds team to glory. There is an endless list of players in all positions who have matured into better players in their early thirties.

30 really isn't a good age to use any more to judge a player perhaps becoming too old. Look at Distan. He is still a beast and is still quick. With the improvements in sports science in past 15-20 years, players will go on playing much longer at the highest level.

There is too much focus on age , a player at 32 is in his prime and should have another three or four years at the top.
Mourinho commented that he had no problem signing players in their thirties.
We also appear to have some talented youngsters who will be pushing their way up into the first team squad in a couple of years.

This season the biggest challenge will be getting players comfortable with the new style of play.Until players are completely comfortable the style of play may look a little slow and laboured, but long term I think it will bring great dividends to the club.

Agree whole heartedly. The adjustment of style will have an affect short term but is obviously the correct thing to do for the long term. I just hope he has the youth and reserves taking on board this passing game.
