ALAN MYERS

They were giving free EiTC 25th anniversary badges out yesterday, and the little clasp thingy on the back pin didn't work properly. Fuming here

Much like Alan Myers shouldn't give trolls on twitter the time of day, this board shouldn't do the same for dayvek.

There's plenty of stuff to disagree with Davek over without twisting his words lads, btw. He never cheapened the charity with his comments, he simply attacked (rightly or wrongly) the way in which the club present it in the media.

Dave you have surprised me using this to attack the board, you have backed your argument up by patting Alan on the head as if he is doing a good job.

His interaction with the fans via Twitter is the main reason a load of blues are seeing this side to the club.

This social media interaction is incredibly important to ensure the news around not just EITC gets out but when fans need questions answering, little jobs sorting ( i know at least 1 on here who have asked for a favour).

Its disappointing, as you personally raved about his appointment after the other clown left under a cloud,
i dont see why you have a problem with this.

I've said I dont mind Myers, but that he hasn't handled this situation well. Go through the thread. I dont think I've been alone in that viewpoint.

BTW, I was never raving about Myers' appointment. I doubt there's any evidence for that. I said he should be given a chance. By and large he's been ok.

Anyway, just a bit tired of this constant refusal by some others to accept a point being made in good faith. I do take on board the advice to make that point in the right thread though. So....

I saw all this unfold on Twitter last night. It was quite outrageous.

First of all, it is important to separate the 2 things here - the criticism/trolling on Twitter that has made Alan take a break is not from the likes of davek or others who think ill of literally everything Kenwright and the board do. That is an entirely separate issue. I am very surprised to see davek bring it up here in this thread. Alan himself said in one of his final tweets that his break from Twitter was absolutely nothing to do with the Blue Union and that he has absolutely no issue with them. As much as people want to deride the trolls and moaners attacking Alan, the Blue Union has absolutely nothing at all to do with this 'incident' and really should be left out of it. They get enough flak as it is, rightly or wrongly depending on your own view.

Secondly, the situation with Alan is as follows. One fella made a snide remark about the half time celebration of Everton in the Community raising £1m. He basically tweeted Alan with 'what was all that <4 letter word> on the pitch at half time? you're turning us into Bolton/Boro with that nonsense'. Another clown tweeted Alan with 'the EFC pr department is a F'N shambles and should all be sacked. you're turning us into a laughing stock. i was late getting into the ground because i was stuck behind the steel drum band' (this clown was actually serious by the way). He then started having a go about 'non-Everton songs being sung are a joke, this allez allez oh song isn't an Everton song, you're ruining Everton, Alan'. Alan recently commissioned the band that played at half time to produce a professional 'Allez Allez Oh' song that will be brought out soon. Given all the fans have been singing it all season, it was a really good move. There may have been more tweets that Alan received, but these were the ones he responded too, very professionally and politely I might add.

The tweets were absolutely embarrassing and couldn't be any further from the truth. You can imagine Alan, probably just getting in after a 12-14 hour shift at the club on a matchday, after a great day of celebration, and us winning a game, and then seeing all that garbage and how he must feel. He's incredibly professional and yeah, he's probably got a thick skin and can laugh it off in the knowledge that 99.9% of EFC fans are with him on everything, but occasionally it must get him down.

Alan Myers is a terrific guy who has transformed the EFC Communications department in his 6 months at the club. He solved the badge fiasco. He opened up channels between fans groups and websites with the EFC management team and players. He has improved our public image no end at all. Do we really want to go back to the dark old days of EFC Communications department treating the fans like poo on their shoe, the likes of Ian Ross plotting against fans, the likes of that Kopite Paul Tyrell slating fans on Twitter, calling them an enemy of the club and not responding to e-mails and tweets, ignoring fans wishes?

It really makes me angry that we've finally got a good man in charge of things and I pray that a few absolute morons don't run him off or changes the way he acts towards the majority. Some people need to hang their heads in shame.

I know absolutely nothing about the band at half time but I did think they were very good.
I assume they are some sort of community project thing bringing various people and ages together from various backgrounds.
They certainly seemed to be enjoying themselves, my feet were tapping and my lad was dancing along to the beat.
If you were offended by them or thought they were not good enough then jog on by and put your JLS or One Direction playlist back on !

Unbelievable!

This is also correct, i seem to remember you referring to him as an okay appointment but a bit of a yes man.

Thread got derailed too much but Alan Myers has been wonderful since he came to the club. Yes, some of the stuff is a bit cringey... but at least the club are trying stuff, the more they do the more fans are likely to get involved.

EiTC is a fantastic organisation and it just promotes a feel good factor around the club and it is an organisation that we should be proud of and celebrated.

I think the nature of the job pulls you in the direction of protecting your employers' best interests, yes. I'm not sure I said yes man.

Spot on.

That is davek's own personal view. It's not necessarily reality. I personally disagree with everything he's said. I don't think the board are 'hiding behind it' or 'using it to their advantage'. It is a legitimate thing to be proud of.

If Everton do something well, does this mean we can never ever celebrate this fact, for fear that it might come off as 'masking that the club has a debt' or 'masking that the club doesn't spend loads of money on players' or 'masking that the club can't fund a new stadium'?

No, it shouldn't. Because they are all entirely different things. 'Everton In The Community' has nothing to do with the search for investors, or what may or may not be in Martinez' transfer kitty.

It is a legitimate thing that we should be proud of. No other club in the country has what we have got. Liverpool have nothing at all like what we've got. As a Blue, I'm proud of it and I know a lot of other people are too.

Needs a thicker skin if he's going to be at Everton for very long
