Maybe. A 5s ad is tolerable for those purposes and was sufficient in the past. Why is it insufficient now? Greed. I refuse to be told what to consider buying, I actively avoid buying stuff thats advertised it annoys the hell out of me so much.
I'd happily pay a small fee for an ad free service, but a tenner a month is way too much.

Furthermore- originally youtube was set up for fun - people who as a hobby go to the trouble of making a film. Some of this stuff is the best. I don't get paid for doing my hobby.

Youtube millionaires showing people how to do hair or nails - with loads of ads thieving people's time? Shudders. Get a proper job.

Sadly many channels have been affected and demonetised over the past year. Channels that weren't child friendly , even if they were in the realms of adult interest if that makes sense?

Go and Google it for a good list of genres that were affected. Point is , YouTube were quick to divert money from the content makers over a wide range of subjects into their own pocket
