I thought myself until i saw a documentry about football rivalries
Inter were formed as a breakaway club after an arguement with owners(sound familiar) about signing non italian players , hence internationalize(sorry about spelling) as the name.

The higher classes frowned upon non nationals playing for their team in the early 1900's so hence that class divide grew as well
