Your top 3 World cup matches of all time?

England v Argentina '86 - immense game. The only England game I can remember being properly sad after we lost. Still can't believe Lineker didn't get on the end of that Barnes cross. No matter what a cheat Maradona was, it was a pleasure to see him play in that '86 world cup.

England v Germany '90 - wanted so much for us to win this one and get our revenge on Argentina in the final. Possibly the best England side I've seen and probably the closest we'll ever come to winning it again......

Italy v Brazil '82 - I still remember the shock that Brazil got knocked out. One of many great games from the world cups in the 80's

Ugh, thanks for the reminder on that first one. In retrospect, how did they end up in the same group? Would've assumed they were in the same pot.

Iran where actually higher ranked than USA being in pot C and 'murica in pot D

Teams aren't ranked in pots B-D. Pot B is Europe (and sometimes 1 other team). Pots C-D are 2 from CONCACAF, South America, Africa and Asia. I think CONCACAF has been in the same pot as Asia the last 3 WCs. If I remember correctly Iran was the last Asian team we played in the WC.

Played South Korea, but only because they were the hosts in 2002. Same year we were in with Portugal and Poland.
