With inspiration gained from the daughters first car thread (probably the only good natured inspiration drawn from that hive of debauchery) a thread for the good and diversely aged people of GOT to discuss their first wheels and their attached foibles.

Mine was a silver Peugeot 206 LX which apparently stood for luxury but the X had fallen off so it just read L. The gearbox exploded the day after I got it and when I worked at the bottom of a big hill that got very busy I had to put the heater on full blast to prevent the engine from overheating which was hideous in the summer and required a uniform change when I got to work.

It wasn’t a pulling mobile and eventually the steering rack fell off and I’ll never buy french again.

1991 ford falcon xf ute. Complete pile of garbage, had about 300,000kms when i bought it. Gearbox used to heat up that much in summer I'd scorch my arms or legs if they brushed up against any bare metal on the floor of the car, flick the high beams on driving at night and occasionally the lights would just cut out completely. Fuel gauge didn't work, speedo only worked when it wanted.

Somehow got about 6 years out of it only breaking down once when a hose that connected to the radiator corroded and came off.

A 1977 black Austin Mini. Looked lovely but the first time I tried to brake with force I found the rear drums were better than the front drums. Luckily there was no one around and it didn't do too much damage...

Mk4 Golf, wrapped it into a field

My first new car I bought was a 02 Golf GT TDI. I loved that car.

Mk3 fiesta 1.1. Totally rubbish.

I had an XR2i for a bit and I totally agree. Rubbish.
