Well of course you should ask who wants to take one. No point making a player take one when they really don't feel confident doing it. The only time when a manager should make someone take one is when everyone says no, which I'm sure very rarely happens. Although it looks like its happened here. This is why women should make sandwiches and nothing else.

Ask any player who has been part of a penalty shoot out, the manager always asks who fancies one so the most confident players go first. I'm not saying they won't have a line up in their heads already but they always ask for volunteers first, every time.

I don't have to look any further than the USWNT to see that is false. In the 99 final as well as Sunday's match, an assistant coach chose the players and order.

Really US Mens Team won their group last year, that England was in.... US women's team in the Semi-Finals. To me the current and last years world cup has shown the US to be better both for the women and the mens team... YOU might want to look at that you american hater.

I don't know in a knockout tourney as a manager you might to practice pens and/or talk to the players who you'd like to take the pens beforehand. If Victor raises his hand at the end of regulation in the FA cup final that doesn't mean you should let him take a pen.
