Whats a 'middle' school.
It's a junior high, but down a grade. Everybody knows that...
Despite any other reason you may hear, the reason for the change from grades 7 - 9 to grades 6 - 8 was to make sure that 9th grade boys had upperclassmen to beat or otherwise intimidate them into submission and keep them under control. Otherwise, it becomes a bit like Lord of the Flies. Fourteen year olds aren't emotionally equipped to be on the top of anyone's pyramid of power.

Yep. They do. In a few years some of these kids may be doing this - at least until they turn 21. Then they've "aged out"
Here's an interesting perspective from the Everton of Drum Corps, the Bluecoats of Canton, Ohio - also a non-profit community organization.
DCI drum corps are kind of like a combination of summer camp, basic training, music conservatory and running off to join the circus. This is so very very American you won't get it at all. You do this, you get to see the country. All of it.
From last year's finals in Indy. At the end, those aren't boos. They're shouting "Blue".
