Yanks going mental because of 'soccer'

Boss that. In my opinion only football can get that raw emotion out of people, other sports have been great - thinking of England in the 2003 RWC Final with Wilko's last minute drop goal, the Kasprowicz out at Edgbaston in 2005, and the NY Giants against the Pats in Super Bowl XLII - but don't come close to the rawness of football.

There's some genuine yank togger fans out there who know what they're on about, it's the world cup there's bound to be bandwagoners but even so i enjoyed those vids!

This is gonna sound corny, but this country is so divided on so many things...politics, regional differences, religion it's almost like you can't talk about anything with anyone for fear of pissing them off. It's really bummed me out.

But this is something EVERYONE can get behind, and I've got to be honest with you it feels good. It's good for our culture and it's good for our country.

Not if you support England..

Great scenes.

90-odd% of the yanks are bandwagon-jumping plastics just looking to get bevvied and go mental like. Completely different feeling in the celebrations of, for example, an Everton goal, but I guess it has to start somewhere.

I'm right behind the USA tonight, again.

So nearly worked out for the USA. There is the other comps to look forward to though. For the game last nioght apparently the viewing ratings exceeded events like the NBA final.

Looks like they finally understand

The war is not won yet. In the end, it's the social aspect of watching "soccer" that will win over new fans. The mainline American sports are great, but they don't offer the same, so there will be new fans added. We'll see what happens in the end, but I don't think the growth will be rapid.

We get together in homes and bars to watch the Superbowl, but every other sporting event is basically a watch-at-home-on-TV event. Getting people together in public spaces to watch the games was a great achievement, and that stands apart from what we see in other sports.

I'd say there is an inevitability regarding the USA winning the World Cup in the not to distant future.

Maybe around twenty to thirty years from now.

Just going on the report in The New York Times about the match, which was a damn good read.
