Player Valuation: £30m
Aiyegbeni Yakubu has retired at the age of 35. Was a good striker for us in my opinion, bit unfortunate with quite a serious injury which came at a time when he was looking like one of the best finishers in the league. All the best Yak and maybe see you as a coach in the future, maybe even back with us at Everton!

The Yak was our best centre forward since Lineker in his first season. Injury ruined his second season, and he never really came back for us. Not for a lack of ability though - he was still a goal scorer at Prem level as he went on to prove at Blackburn with an 18 goal season after he left us.

Still not sure why we sold him though. We’d waited for him to get back from injury and as soon as he was approaching some decent form we sold him for a paltry fee. We didn’t even have a decent striker at the time. He then banged them in for Blackburn.

Imagine how different the 09 season might have turned out if Yakubu Arteta Jagielka and Anichebe had stayed fit the whole season. Could have been looking at top 4 and the cup, but as usual Everton happened, and as soon as we had a decent team it was ripped apart (literally by the cruciate that time. 3 in one season and a leg break FFS)
