Yakubu or not Yakubu.

I think the QPR game has just confirmed the ever pressing need for Moyes to decide what to do with the Yak.

Lets take a look at the strikers we have;

Saha - Has an eye for goal, but on saturday his short passing was woeful, and lets face it, hes not injury free is he?

Anichebe - Big, strong, decent bit of pace, can hold the ball up well when he wants, but he's not going to use that on the RW, and add that to the fact that he doesnt ever seem to shoot.

Beckford - Quick, and can finish, but at times, far too greedy for my liking, and still looks a little lightweight.

You see the conundrum, if we could blend the three of them into one, im sure you'll all agree we'd have a goal machine on our hands.

Now in no way am i saying that the answer is the yak, but he's strong, has an eye for a goal and can finish, but he does lack the raw pace that is needed to beat defenders now.

Personally, id love to see the yak used in a 4-4-2 formation, as you all probably would. the only issue is who would you pick for his strike partner, naturally, the choice is to pick someone quick, so admittedly, id assume becks to be his partner.

there is the option, of having a tall striker, to nod the ball down to the yak, not to utilise pace, but to utilise strength...(was it meireles who tried to rugby tackle him last season? and he bounced off him?) so in this case, perhaps vellios? this kid doesnt look slow, but has the height to allow him to beat defenders in the air.

It does leave much to the imagination, because when you think about it, its one that can be solved with any combination, the only problem is, with 1year left on his deal, do we use him, or do we ship him out now?

Are you sure though?

i think at times he attempts the silly, but, he did do cech last season with a deft clip...that to me is a goalscorers finish..

And we'd sell him for a profit and buy some half baked/half decent replacements & service the debt for this month.

He's never going to be the goalscorer he once was but Yakubu would benefit the team in other areas. When Saha's out we need someone who can hold the ball up and bring our midfield into the game, especially at home. He's got strength, intelligence and vision in abundance and would help us break down opposition teams.

At the very least it'd stop Moyes from throwing Fellaini upfront and pumping the ball up to him.

We shall soon have the true measure of The Yak [I don't mean his girth] Is he gonna be happy sitting in our reserves picking up wedge or is he A] gonna take a wage cut in order to get first team football elsewhere or B] Work hard, buckle down and earn a place in our first team?

Basically, what I am saying is: Has he now become Van De Meyde in disguise?

The fact that he's playing for the reserves shows a willingness to play and be involved in football. He even dropped a League last season, so I don't think that's the problem. David Moyes has put him in this position, not Yakubu.

No way should he take a wage cut. I know I wouldn't if I was him.

Good points. however, i'm not really interested in who put who in what position. I don't believe half the rubish about Moyes holding grudges, he's fell out with senior pro's at the club before and managed to either patch things up or carry on working with them. I remember reading about bust-up's between Dunc and Moyes. And didn't a bit of crap go off when Neville was appointed skipper, with Weir? and other seniors? Both of them carried on working with him.

I'm more interested in how this is going to be resolved. I find it hard to believe that Moyes will let him sit in the reserves all season on 50k a week[if he's not sold], if he's applying himself properly.

In addition he's toned up and lost weight in the past year or so. Unless my eyes deceive me. It's one of the reasons I'm fed up of our fans calling him fat.

He's not going to be what he was, but he still has great vision, fantastic strength and can also hold the ball up better than our other strikers. If Moyes insists on a 4-4-1-1 with Cahill, he needs to be our frontman. Otherwise surely he'd be a good partner for Becks in a 4-4-2/4-4-1-1?

They had a falling out and Moyes doesn't forgive and forget. Cutting of your nose to spite your face is how I'd describe the whole farce.

I don't think he will, but he's probably tried to sell him all summer, hence Yak playing in the reserves and trying to get as much game time as possible. I don't think they have had a major bust up, Moyes always states Yakubu is a good lad, but he hasn't given him a fair chance in my opinion. Especially when he's stuck with other players during long periods of poor form.

The most annoying thing is that he stuck with the Yak for a good period after his injury. And then when he finally hit some form in October, he dropped him for a half-fit, badly out of form Saha!

This.
And the part in bold - he really isn't fat any more. He lost weight, got actually fitter and stronger (and he was a beast before, mind) and I won't be surprised if he even got a bit of his pace back (a bit, though, as it's rarely that he can recover his full speed after an injury like that, plus he's about 43 years old ffs).
The QPR game had his name written all over it, but FFS M0yl3z...

Moyes has decided what to do with the Yak... He doesn't want him he is actively trying to sell him... but like David Moyes nobody wants him, he doesn't add value to any premiership squad and simply isn't good enough anymore.

It's not as easy as choosing 'Yakubu or no Yakubu'. We have Yakubu and can't get rid of him... end of.

It's been hard enough trying to sell Yobo who we apparently had an agreement to sell. Nobody is going to buy Africans/Nigerians 5 months before the ACON.

The Yuk, as Fulham would reserves would call him, is someone who either should be given a lot of playtime to allow him to get run of games and prove himself or just get rid from the pay sheet. If we keep him, play him. He might have a double cheeseburger surprise for us.
