Writing players off/getting angry at them

Should those who abused Pickford and Iwobi be schtum right now?

Was having an interesting conversation with someone I know about the recent events at Everton and upturn of performance and result.

Huge credit to the fans for what they have done in invoking this. That person however argues that those who had wrote off and abused the likes of Pickford and Iwobi should be keeping their heads down now as they’re part of the problem at Everton, and if they had any pride as men of their word they would be humble and learn from it in silence.

Which I thought was a little harsh want to see what good blues on here think.

It's a fluid thing. Nobody who plays with any regularity in the top flight is a rubbish player.

If a player was playing badly for a long period of time then it's understandable that fans would have a go at them. It isn't cheap to go the match etc.

What probably needs to change is this idea that a footballer will stay the same player throughout their career. There was a stage a couple of seasons ago where every shot against us seemed to go in with Pickford in goal, he was awful during that time, this season though he has been brilliant by and large. He could stay that way, he could go back to being crap again, the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

I see weekly teams being posted by fans lately who still leave Iwobi out of the side even though he has been one of our most consistent players the past couple of months. The only time that is important is the present.

The vaults are going to be great once the season is over, with no football for us to enjoy we need something else to talk about

Absolutely spot on here.
As you say in your second point, it's completely understandable (and right) that fans will criticize poor player performances, but some of the vitriol towards certain players can be waaay over the top.
The consensus on here (and social media generally) seems to be that a player is either a 'world beater' or 'complete dross.'

Speak as you find...Pickford has had periods of poor form and Iwobi has had months, if not seasons.
We pay to watch them
They get paid a kings ransom to be watched.
If you paid £600 for a years subscription (or football season ticket) to a magazine and it didn't turn up every week for 5 weeks and / or some of the articles were missing, you'd be within your rights to be a tad miffed if the writer seemed to shrug and claim writers block... oh and some weeks I just plain couldn't be arsed...but I still want paying.

If they start turning out Booker Prize quality you cheer up and say this is more like it.

That same heady brew of entitlement and ignorance is part of the problem at Everton, so says my mate. He also said it took Evertonians to act like kopites before we could make things better. I felt it was harsh so didn’t really push him on it.
